Always after a loss, I go surfing draft websites. Other than replacing Reed as our special teams coach, I'm thinking maybe the Cowboys should think about trying to improve special teams through the draft. Here's a guy that I think could be a good kickoff/ punt coverage specialist and a quality backup linebacker. This is from NFL draft Countdown(my fav draft site):
Clay Matthews Linebacker USC
Height: 6-3 | Weight: 240 | 40-Time: 4.75
If this name sounds familiar it should because his dad, also named Clay, played in the NFL from 1978 to 1996 and his uncle, Bruce, is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame following a 19-year career with the Houston Oilers / Tennessee Titans. A former walk-on at Southern Cal, Matthews has spent most of his college career in the shadow of other great Trojan linebackers like Keith Rivers, Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing but as a senior he has emerged as a legit pro prospect in his own right. A versatile player who can play any of the linebacker positions as well as defensive end, Matthews is also a fine special teamer who is being looked at by 4-3 and 3-4 teams alike. Matthews isn't going to be an early round pick by any stretch but thanks to the strong senior campaign he is enjoying he now appears to be a draftable prospect and his stock is on the rise.
I know we've missed on special teams prospects before(Skyler Green), but I think this guy could be legit. He couldn't make our special team coverage units any worse!
