I do but it isn't scary. When I was a kid I had a paper route. One of my customers was an older couple who were retired. Every day at noon their ghost, Charlie, knocked on the door. You open the door, no one there. But the knock was unmistakable.

Like I said, not scary.

There is a private club associated whith the hotel where I work. There have been stories through the years of strange happenings there. I have personally seen what I thought was a woman in a red dress standing at the bar long after the club was closed, and when I checked no one was there. I have heard the sounds of people talking and doors closing when I am the only person there.

And it's just not me. Over the years other employees have reported things over there. Voices, footsteps the sound of doors closing and people partying and we once had an engineer come back over to the hotel from the club and quit on the spot.

The club is filled with antiques and works of art. There is one painting where in the pack ground can clearly be seen the visage of what appears to be Satan.

As a joke I once took a recorder with me while doing a checkn and conducted an EVP session. I remember sneezing while over there and the next morning when I checked the tape I caught some thing that sounded an awfully lot like "bless you".

Booooooooooooooooooooooooo. :)

That's a story about a local fire that has left one building here in Tucson "haunted." I post that because the main ghost is called "the lady in red." Your story reminded me of it.

The Adolphus Hotel in Downtown Dallas is supposed to be haunted. The wife and I stay at the hotel sometimes when we visit Dallas. We always stay in a specific junior suite on the 19th floor (the haunted floor) for this reason.

The first time we stayed in the room, the lamp in the sitting area of the room would flicker occasionally. It was kind of spooky, but I believe it was just an electrical problem in the lamp itself. If I moved the lamp around, it would flicker also. Of course, I'm not sure why it would occasionally flicker when nobody was touching it.

The Adolphus room services hamburgers are awesome. If you ever stay there, you should get one.

The story:

When things go bump in the night at the historic Hotel Adolphus in downtown Dallas, Eric Langley gets the call.

"It's usually somebody just complaining of hearing conversations and the like," said Langley, who has spent the past four years handling guest services on the aptly named 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. graveyard shift. "I get calls at night that people hear someone walking down the hall." Sometimes, the sleepy-voiced guests say they are bothered by the steady drone of a distant piano. Other times, the patrons complain of the loud Big Band music echoing down the hallway.

"The 19th floor used to be the ballroom level," Langley explained. "That's where most of the stories generate from." But when security officers arrive to investigate the complaints, the result is always the same. No one is wandering the hall. There is no piano player or swing band. In fact, for decades, there hasn't even been a ballroom.

At first glance, the 19th floor looks like any other of the Adolphus today. Rows of white doors stretch along the sides of the quiet carpeted hallway. There are no clues to its former opulence.

John Valis, the hotel's director of engineering, said the long-abandoned ballroom was gutted in 1979 to make way for a subsequent remodeling that filled the 19th level with new guestrooms. But behind an inconspicuous door on the 21st floor, through a hidden crawlspace and over a rickety catwalk high above the ceiling of the current 19th floor, a giant cavity is at the hotel's core. And below lie the decrepit remnants of the once grand gathering place.

Pillows of insulation have replaced the polished hardwood floors where Dallas' elite once danced the night away. Peeling wallpaper hangs from the gritty walls and a marble staircase leads to nowhere.

"I guess you have to use a little bit of your imagination to see what it was," Valis said, surveying the emptiness beneath his perch. "It's said it was glamorous, and it probably was." Arched ceilings are now only rusty steel ribs suspended overhead. Small, boarded windows hint at where spotlights were once stationed to illuminated the dance floor.

"This is 1912 vintage construction," Valis said. He proudly patted a steel beam above his head and bragged that rivets, not welds, hold the steel structure together. "You get better quality, but it takes longer to put it together." But is the dark, dusty ballroom the nightly setting for supernatural carousing?

"I haven't seen anything myself," Valis said.

Many of his co-workers say they have.

Since its construction in 1912, the Adolphus has maintained a reputation for lavish comfort and keen service. They're what keep customers coming back, and perhaps why some never leave.

Hotel guests and employees have reported numerous instances of unexplained activity throughout the building. They've reluctantly attributed the incidents to the ghosts of visitors from long ago.

"People feel like someone is watching them. They hear doors slam. Over the years, I've heard it all," said Louis Ford, a 16-year employee who now supervises the hotel's Bistro restaurant.

Ford said he, too, worked the graveyard shift early in his career at the Adolphus. He said he often sensed he was not alone as he made his late-night rounds to collect room service carts.

"I have felt a presence at times. You feel like someone is watching you, but no one is there, of course," he said.

Longtime bartender Dale Rust blames one playful spirit for routinely rearranging the beer bottles displayed behind his counter.

"It would always move out," Rust said, pointing to the last bottle in the row of samples on a shelf. "You'd put it back and later it would be moved out again." Rust said last spring marked a particularly busy period of paranormal activity.

In the weeks following the death of a frequent customer, employees repeatedly saw the image of the deceased woman, taking a place at her favorite table near the front of the Bistro's seating area.

In another incident, a housekeeper claimed an unseen visitor repeatedly tapped her on the shoulder as she was attempting to clean one of the hotel's restrooms.

At least two hotel employees reported separate instances of windows bursting open with a violent blast of cold air.

"Out of nowhere, the window just flew open." Langley said, recalling how the incident caused one visitor to fall to the floor in a rush to escape the room.

"We assumed somebody didn't latch the window, but that's very odd. It was on the interior of the building. It would be hard for the wind to get in there." And on one occasion, two women fled the hotel in the middle of the night after awakening to find the apparition of an unknown man standing in their room.

However, no single supernatural occupant of the Adolphus has registered more visits than the specter of a spurned woman in white.

"We've had people say they saw a bride," Langley said. "Supposedly it was a bride who was left at the altar." According to hotel lore, the grand ballroom was the scene for many musical events and elegant weddings during the hotel's earliest years. But in the 1930s, one young bride's dreams of a fantasy marriage in the ornate hall were dashed when her husband-to-be abandoned her on their wedding day.

The distraught bride promptly hanged herself only steps from where she had hoped to begin a new life with her beau.

Now, the lonely spirit is said to haunt the halls of the 19th floor, occasionally making her presence known to unsuspecting hotel guests.

"People will say they hear a woman crying in the room next to them, but there won't be anyone there," Rust said.

Johnny Bauman, a Bistro waiter, said he recently encountered the ghostly bride as he wandered the building with a friend late one night.

"I was telling her about the ghost stories I'd heard working here. She said we should go up to the 19th floor," Bauman said.

But when the couple arrived at their destination, they knew something was terribly wrong.

"As soon as we walked off the elevator, this heat rush hit us and my ears turned bright red," Bauman said. "We could feel a presence there. We knew we shouldn't be toying with that stuff." The pair raced back to their room on the 10th floor. But when they arrived in the company of more friends who were staying at the hotel, at least one woman from the party sensed that they were not alone.

"Without us saying a word, she said, 'What did you bring here with you?' We could all feel there was still a presence there. Everyone in the whole room felt it," Bauman said.

Some of the room's occupants eventually fell asleep, but for those who remained awake, the peculiar events continued. The gentle sound of an unseen music box played for more than an hour.

David Davis, director of public relations for the Adolphus, isn't sure if ghosts really are roaming the halls. But he agrees that many guests and employees feel a unique connection to the building's past.

"That's why I started working here. There is a feeling of history," he said.

Whether tall tales or vivid imaginations are to blame for the hotel's paranormal phenomena, Davis said it's all just part of the Dallas institution's intriguing character.

"Whatever that spirit is, that sense people get here, it draws a certain type of guest and a certain type of employee," Davis said. "There is something about the Adolphus that wants to draw people in. It wants you to be a part of the family."

I've lived in two houses I've thought were haunted. One was in Lemoore Ca.

My wife at the time was in Memphis Tn visiting family and pregnant with our third child, while she was away I was moving into base housing. The day I move in, I get the bedroom set up, living room, cable is turned on etc... well that night I watch tv in the living room, I go to the bed room take my shower, lay down and about 45 min later almost asleep and the TV in the living room turns on with the volume all the way up. this was in 1993, it scared the crap out of me, the rest of the night I felt like someone was watching me. I left for work the next day and I'm a nut on home security, well I get back home from work and the front door is open, when I know I had dead bolted it. Well a few months pass, and nothing happens till one night we've got company over playing cards. I guess about 10-15 people were at the house, the guys sitting around the table playing, and the wives in the kitchen. Well the wife comes out of the kitchen and asks "are you just going to leave Chelsea in the bedroom crying" I was like, um she's on the couch in her car seat asleep. you could hear a pin drop because sure enough you could hear a baby crying in the back of the house. I head back to the bed room "creeping along" and everyone is lined up behind me like from a scene from Scooby Doo. I get to the master bedroom and you can plain as day hear a baby crying in the room. I reach for the door handle and as my hand closes around it and begin to turn the crying stops.

I found out the following week that about a year before we had moved in, a wife while giving her baby a bath in the master bathroom, the kitchen caught on fire, she went to the kitchen to put out the fire, and when she got back to the bathroom the baby had drowned.

Now to my current home, we've owned the house for 5 years now. When we first moved in there was nothing, my mother in law gave us this very old and very heavy Mirror about a year after we moved in. well ever since we got the mirror weird things have happened.

My son was up one night listening to his stereo and a song by Rascal Flats came on, so he records it with his phone and sends it to his GF. well she txts him a few minutes later and says very funny. he was like what, she said half way through the song you can hear someone screaming. so he listened to it and sure enough you could hear it plain as day. My son goes to his brothers room to let him listen, and they decide to go upstairs to let my daughter listen, as they come out of the brothers room the stereo in Brandon's room turns off, so they high tail it upstairs. My daughter listens to it and is freaked out, well the two boys go back downstairs and when they get to the bottom of the stairs the stereo turns back on, with the song he had recorded just 30 min before playing again. needless to say they slept upstairs that night. I listened to it the next day and sure enough you could hear it. My son swears to this day it wasn't him that did it.

I work from home, my office is downstairs, there are many days I can be down here and hear someone pacing upstairs, the toilet has flushed when no one is home but me. my wife and daughter were in the kitchen just two weeks ago, and they heard someone walk through the kitchen, the wife said it sounded like boots walking across the floor.

my personal experience that scared me was.

I woke up one night about 3am sounded like someone was knocking on the front door, so I get up and the front door has a window on each side of it about 6" across and the height of the door, we had a sheer curtain over them at the time. well I look out the window and no one is there so I go back up to bed. about 2 min after laying down I hear knocking again, so I get up and go to the banister overlooking the stairs and just listen, I was thinking maybe it's one of the boys friends trying to wake them up or something. I don't hear anything so I go lay back down, I'm laying there and I'm like I really need to go downstairs to check on the boys, I have an alarm system but still, I'm a freak on home security. well I walk to the bedroom door and open it, as it clears the door jam the door knob get's jerked out of my hand and slams shut. I had it past the jam about 2", I was like *** someone's on the other side of the door and I'm freaking out, so I try to open the door but I can't so I jerk as hard as I can and it flies open and no one is there. I jump into the little foyer in front of our bedroom and it's I'd say about 10-15 degrees cooler than our bedroom was. I'm like oh heck no, so I start down the stairs and the hair on my back is at attention, we have what's called a "split foyer" where you go down half a flight of stairs and you have the front door, then another half flight and you're downstairs. when I reach the bottom of the stairs I look back upstairs and something passes between myself and the front door. it was only a split second but it blocked the light out that was coming through the window beside the front door. Needless to say I didn't go back to sleep that night.

after some research I found people think that spirits can attach themselves to objects, the only old item we have was the mirror my mother in law gave us so I have since asked my mother in law where she got this mirror, and she said she found it sitting next to a dumpster and didn't want it to go to waste.

These are not made up stories, I could go on for pages about different things like doors opening while you sit there, knocking on walls, to Tv's and radios turning on and off on their on, in our current house that have happened but these were the two "freakiest".

Jeez, man. Goosebumps.

I'm no believer in the paranormal (though I did have a La Llorona experience), but I think I'd get rid of the mirror just the same. It'd be like a reenactment of the last scene in Poltergeist. :)

No one is going to top this.

I shared a while back about a place I used to work. We actually had people quit because they were scared. I was at work one afternoon when I heard footsteps but no one was there. Never really had any experiences like others did. Most thought it was the old maintenance super who had died, Blair.

I had a group of paranormal investigators come check out my office in May.

http://www.caprockparanormal.com/Welcome.html

If you click on the evidence link, and scroll down to Leader-News, you can check out some of the stuff they found. Give the page some time to load.

I tell my publisher that the ghost help me meet my deadlines when I work late nights at the office. I just want to get the heck out!

They picked up some cool EVP's.

No such thing as ghost! Once you die, you're gone and all that is left is a shell. (your carcass)

I still think my middle school has ghosts.

There were always stories about how the school was haunted, but I would be like yeah whatever youre just trying to scare me out of middle school.

Well, basketball practice always started at 6:30A.M. sharp, but a lot of us would get there early and just sit and talk in the halls before the coaches opened the door to the gym.

So about 5 of us girls were there and the door to the gym is still locked,no sign of light in the gym, and no Coach Ysaguirre- so we wait.

All of a sudden our hall lights start going on and off and we all start screaming(it gets dark in there) Finally, the hall lights stay on, and we hear a bunch of basketballs bouncing in the gym. The gym door is still locked and we still dont see any light inside. We were freaking out. Its a ghost, Valerie shouts, then everybody starts screaming again. LOL. The bounces lasted for less than minute and then our coach comes in as we have our ear to the door of the gym.

We asked if she was just in the gym and she said no and opened the door. The gym was pitched dark. She turned on the lights and no signs of the basketballs being bounced. We told her the story and she just said yeah, thats just Charlie and his friends.

LOL ***?? We just looked at each other and went on with practice. We never heard Charlie and company again.

I saw a spirit once years ago when I lived with my grandparents.

I was in high school and my grandparents worked late into the night so I was home alone. I walked into the hall to go to my bedroom and there was a man leaning against the door just staring. Arms crossed. As soon as we locked eyes he was just gone. I rushed to him (funny thing is I was never scared and I was a 17 year old female alone at home..I should have been terrified but for some very odd reason I wasn't!).

I told my grandparents when they got home and they just said yea sure you saw somebody...anyway it bothered me who this man was so I started the photo album hunt..pulled out all the old family pictures I could get my hands on.

I finally found one of my grandmother's father who died when she was very young and it was that gentleman.

I often wondered what he wanted and why was I the one to see him? He died decades before I was even a thought. I think he was just checking in..that he had no bad intentions..after all that was his daughter's home and even though generations apart we were related.

At least that's what I have told myself all these years.
