Do you think we try to re-sign Gurode and/or Columbo?

Colombo before the season (post-season) ends?

Have the coaches and JJ seen enough do extend their contracts? Or does JJ let the market set the value of these guys. My concern is that the bidding can go crazy.

While our OL has question marks, I have generally been pleased with the play of Kosier, Gurode, and Colombo. I think Flo's play is also improving since his injury. It would stink to have to find 2-3 new starters on the OL this off-season.

I can't imagine why Gurode would sign now unless he got an over priced offer. He'll get a lot of interest and knows it.

I doubt we do much now. But Gurode should be our #1 priority for re-signing once the season is over. Lock him up for 7 years. Columbo- once we take a good hard look at game film after the season- see how much we think he can grow- then make a deal.

IF we do decide to re-sign Gurode and Colombo, upgrading the Guard position should be managable in FA or the Draft. It would be a challenge to upgrade 2-3 OL positions in one off-season.

Definitely before April 1, or whenever it is that free agency begins.

Of course, ROmo is the big concern. Its gonna take some bucks to lock him up.

I think JJ is still pinching himself in how lucky he's gotten.

Columbo is much more important than Gurode. The Cowboys have a little leverage with Gurode in that by Parcells own words the camp battle between he and Johnson was fairly close so if Gurode asks for too much, they can fall back to signing Johnson for less.

The only realistic options the Cowboys have to replace Columbo are moving Adams or throwing a first rounder at his replacement (Brown?).

The nice thing the Cowboys have going for them is that they still have a little cap room left so they could get deals done for both during this season. The Dolphins have 20 some free agents at the end of the league year but have less than a million in cap space for this season so they can't re-up anyone.

I think its absolutely vital that we re-sign both Gurode and Colombo. I think they are our two top OL. They are all still young and coming into their own and would command top dollar on the open market. I'm a little scared what their market value is going to be, along with Romo's. Its going to cost us bigtime. I'm really hoping we get some loyalty discount or at least a cap-friendly contract for each of them.
OL cohesion is important too, so you don't want to replace too many guys along that OL in one offseason if you can help it. Obviously Romo is the biggest factor, but I think the guys are playing better as a whole too. We had two almost 3 completely new starters along the OL, Colombo, Kosier, and Gurode (full-time). Rivera is the only guy I'd really like to replace but I think his contract dictates that we keep him another year.

I understand from earlier AdmanJT posting that we $21M+ under the 07 cap. Also understand from his posting on another website, that we would save $6.5M if Bledsoe doesn't come back next year. So we should definitely have enough money to give new contracts to Gurode, Colombo & Romo. Don't forget the cap in 08 goes up another $7M at at least. Also think Crayton & Reeves become either FAs or RFAs after season ends so decisions have to be made there along with resigning McBriar & Gramatica. Should certainly expect we will resign as many of the above players as we want unless one or more of them holds out for a ridiculous amount. It would be smart football to do so since all but Gramatica (whose 31) are around 26/27 and should be good players for the next 5 years. So I'd expect Jerry Jones/Stephen Jones to make a push to resign all of those we want to keep so they never hit FA which due start sometime around 1st/2nd week of March.

Absolutely resign Gurode, it took four years to get him to play, all that work just to turn him over to another team wouldn't sit well with me.

lol, what about Parcells?!! he's the one who was kicking Andre's butt for 3 years lol

Jerry made a comment on Norm about a month ago that he was already working on an extension for both.
