Someone said this morning 3:30/7:30, but Wade's PC started at 5:30 EDT.

Wade Phillips Has A Sense Of Humor
Posted by CBS11
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips started his press conference this afternoon by commenting that Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Jason Witten and Terrell Owens all looked “crisp” in this morning's practice.

Phillips slyly added all four have a chance to make the team if "they keep working hard."

Phillips also called Barber an "all around back who can do it all" and that's why the Cowboys signed him to a long-term deal in the off-season.

When asked about his coaching style Phillips said "I treat 'em like men" and that he enjoys his group of players.

Phillips added that the Cowboys locker room is filled with "characters who have character."

Bobby Carpenter "has worked hard" and is doing better, according to the Cowboys head coach. Carpenter is a former first-round pick who has had a tough time earning playing time under Phillips.

How isn't he? Phillips said he's a hardworker and has improved.

He's a first round draft pick in his third year....playing 3rd string isn't a ringing endorsement. Now, he's had setbacks, for sure, but he's also had ample time to make something happen. He needs to do something now, or never. IMO.

Hope to see a lot more of Carpenter during the preseason games. This is his 3rd season and he needs to improve from #3 on the depth chart behind Zack & Burnett--but it's a tall older. I still believe Carpenter can become a good legit linebacker in the NFL but more likely in a 43 defense rather then either Parcells or Wade's 34.

Understand Parcells wanted Carpenter along with Fasano (losing his job to #3 TE Tony Curtis) in the trade just before the draft but we gave them Ayodele (losing his job to Zack or a release candidate). Their was some talk during the combine that Carpenter was on the trading block but the Cowboys eventually denied it. Can't help thinking it will be true next year if he can't get on the field enough as a linebacker this year rather then just as a good ST player.

To date he's probably the biggest first round disappointment we've had since 2001 when whoever we drafted (can't remember his name) wasn't on the team very long.

It's like saying the girl you're being set up with has a great personality.

Not to pile on, but I just listened to a Carp interview with Sham and Nate that I'd downloaded a while ago, and didn't really like what I heard. Blamed his not playing more on "miscommunications" with the coaching staff, talked about getting to know his teammates better (it's your 3rd year now), and that he didn't get a real opportunity last year. Lot of excuses and gobbledy****.

I'm rooting for Carp, obviously, but it didn't sound very good.

Not sure how much of his comments are right or wrong. I do remember that Wade said earlier this year he might have made a mistake last year in how he used Carpenter because he based his whole evaluation on how Carpenter played in last preseason game (presumably as opposed to Carpenter's play in TC & the other preseason games).
