Cowboys Send Strong Message Giving Brandin Cooks' Jersey To New Free Agent

In recent Dallas Cowboys jersey # announcements, Dante Fowler Jr (who wore No. 56 during his first stint in Dallas) was given No. 3 ... an interesting digit that reminds Cowboys Nation of another notable free agent.

Receiver Brandin Cooks - who wore No. 3 in Dallas in 2024 - is still available on the market.

We have seen when players sign elsewhere their jersey number immediately opens up for the next crop of players. Notably Solomon Thomas taking over DeMarcus Lawrence's No. 90 .

But Cooks hasn't signed a new contract anywhere yet ...

Does this all but spell the end of his time with the Cowboys?

Cooks has had plenty to say this offseason. Despite him accusing the Cowboys of "not using him right", he claims the "door's not shut" on a return to Dallas.

Dallas has recently added a veteran receiver in Parris Campbell along with the re-signing of KaVontae Turpin.

There are still multiple impact-level targets on the free agency market for the Cowboys to pursue as well. Then the NFL Draft.

But all indications have still pointed to the Cowboys moving on from the veteran wideout - the latest being them giving up his returning jersey number.

Is the "door closed" on Brandin Cooks return to Dallas?

Yeah. Cooks and Gilmore are great pickups, if it was 2016.
.....and the 3 or 4 former 1st round busts , including Trey Lance are now part of this teams identity.

I know this thread isn't about our QB but damn, with this roster around him I'm not sure what they expect

This is a far cry from the 9 All Pros around him years ago

Cooks and gilley were lazy half assed attempts by Stephen Jones to fill needs and save money because we are more about sales than actual football. Think merch. So far, it appears we are more serious about football this off-season. Time will tell.

Door is closed and the locks are thrown out!!!!!!!!

I thought it was a good move to bring him in. I was wrong. Cooks is a small #3-4 WR who's lost a step. Houston saw this and traded him as quickly as they could to capitalize on recent success before teams figured out he was no longer the 1000 receiver he used to be.
