Don't care about the money

I have stopped caring about the size of player contracts. No one “deserves” $60 million to throw the ball, or $34 million to catch the ball each year. No one on the Cowboys current team is better than past players who made much much less. It is simply a change in market conditions.

When I graduated from high school, starting salaries for engineers were $18,000 - $22,000 per year. Now starting salaries are minimum $70,000. Are today’s engineers better than previous generations? No. It’s just that the market changed.

So, why should fans get caught up in salary levels for NFL players? Is it less “respectful” to pay Dak $40M per season vs. $60M per season? I think any fan would feel very respected with either salary.

Bottom line: we shouldn’t get too caught up in NFL economics. Instead we should only care about whether the Cowboys put a good team on the field. Do I care if they pay DaRon Bland, or replace him with Caelon Carson? Not really, as long as the Cowboys have a good secondary.

I get that fans get attached to players. But ultimately, it shouldn’t really matter to us. We’d like to see the Cowboys win another championship in our lifetimes. How they accomplish that, and who they decide to pay along the way really doesn’t matter. At least it doesn’t to me.

I say this constantly. Let the front offices and agents worry about the financial side of sports. I honestly wished player's salaries were private so fans could just discuss the actual game. I feel in all sports, these contract talks and overpaid/underpaid and overrated relative to the contract is so pointless to talk about. And you have couch potato fans demanding world class athletes take less money they can get all because they want to sign as many players as they can to watch their favorite team have a better shot to win. All ignoring greedy owners wanting to pay players as little as they can get away with. Fans are so brainwashed, they think it's the players who are angry, while owners skate by laughing at fans who don't even look their way.

I applaud every single player wanting the most money they can get from these owners, who bring in hundreds of millions a year doing nada. Don't tell me they are taking risks by being an owner lol. NFL prints their own money and no franchise, even terrible ones, ever lose money. Players risk their health everyday on the field. Go get all the money you can young men. These same people who call players 'greedy' are the same ones who talk to their bosses to negotiate a higher pay in terms of bonuses and raises. Oh, but that's completely different....:muttley:

Only reasons to care is the more you invest in one player then the less you have for other positions.
And whether it is wise to resign a 9 yr vet to a multi-year extension who has only won 2 playoff games.

But many fans are like Jerry, dont care as long as the Cowboys are somewhat relevant.

When you quit on the field in the first half of a playoff game there are fans who will not be able to simply forget that it happened. You may not care about the money but that is literally all these guys do care about. Playoff games are something they would prefer did not even exist.

It’s one thing if there was no salary cap, but the reality is the pie is only so big. The more you pay for certain players, the less you have for paying the core and most important part of your team. Managing that cap is what separates the winners from the losers.

I wonder daily why “fans” like you even watch. I believe you’re a true fan who just like to complain. To each his own.

I don't know about this, at least not for all players. Playoffs create additional revenue opportunities. So that alone is a motivation for a lot of players.

If there was no salary cap, sure. But every dollar signed away is a dollar we can't spend on someone else (wish it wasn't, we'd be able to sign the most FAs).. so I root for the lowest contracts possible so we can get even more talent.

It's pretty basic really.

Uh, maybe because this guy demanded to be paid more than a 3 time super bowl champion??? I dunno, just throwing stuff out there in hopes that something sticks

I would agree with this post if this was the MLB, but the NFL has a salary cap. That's why fans care about the money.
