my thoughts exactlyJammer;4421800 said:It's been on in the background today. Every once in awhile I'll watch it for a couple of minutes.
My thing is if we had a major disastor like they're planning for, would I really want to live in the aftermath anyway?

If that happens the only thing to do is put your head between your legs and kiss your butt goodbye.
IF for example in late 2008 the banking system had collapsed, things would have been ugly for at least a year or two.
Money would have been useless. even gold- you can't eat it or drink it.
That is about the maximum anyone should consider preparing for.
If the HN1 virus would go airborne and wipe out 80% of the earth's population I agree who wants to live after that?
The Nuclear Winter, etc was over hyped. Even Sagan admitted that before he croaked. But a full scale exchange would not be something you wanted to live through.

I'm in the minority I think, but one of the best things for this planet would be for a good plague to come through and knock out about half the population.
Well lots of people would just move to those areas for economic reasons...or all of the resources that go into supporting those areas could be redirected to benefiting local regions.Hoofbite;4422339 said:The problem with that is it would basically eradicate everyone from certain parts of the earth and no one from other parts.
If you're looking for half the population to disappear, what good would it do you if 90% of that loss came in areas that were outside of the US?

I think though, that plague would ravage the US. Areas with high population density - NY, LA, Chicago, etc. - would be hit hard while less dense areas like the midwest would be impacted less. Between that and tourism/travel, which could easily bring any disease or whatever to the States from an outside country, I can't see a world-wide plague not coming to the US.
