what do you think are the biggest needs for 2017 as of the current date.

I think they are as follows in no particular order:

1. Defensive end
2. Backup QB (if Romo is traded/cut)
3. Backup to Zeke. Unlike most I don't think Morris is "that guy".
4. Right tackle-- Free doesn't have much left in the tank
5. Cornerback(s)If Mo and Carr go this one will be a very high priority. Something tells me we will resign at least one or the other. Letting both go creates too many holes. I think we would prefer to keep Mo.
6. WR. Again the priority of this position could go up or down depending on whether we keep Butler and/or Williams or neither. If we let both go then we may draft a receiver.

I'm all for drafting BPA regardless, but what do you guys rate our needs?

WR - Dez will get injured or have some type of problem.

DE - One Elite DE changes the entire DL, but they need an elite player, not just an above average guy.

CB - Claiborne can't make it through a complete season. Carr has been better on the right but CBs that stay healhy won't be cheap to re-sign. Scandrick does not look good and is struggling to stay healthy. Brown is terrific but does not need to suddenly be the #1 CB. Is McFadden a legit developmental guy?

RT - I would love to replace Free but he has been "good enough" and has stayed healthy. Green has the required talent but has not stayed healthy. I would draft an OL somewhere every year.

LB - Jaylon? Even without him they have some developing guys in Wilson and Nacho.

Safety - They can win with Wilcox at SS if Church does not re-sign and they are developing the rookie draft pick.

RB - A team that is built around the running game needs depth at RB.

TE - They have Witten and Swaim returning with Rico developing.

DT - If T. McClain is too expensive. Young depth is good.

QB - They will want a veteran backup.

Let's see. We need a safety: that Byron Jones kid might be there in the 1st for us.
We also need a pass rusher, but whatever we do, we shouldn't take Randy Gregory. Not even if (and this is crazy) he falls to the end of the 2nd round. Too much risk there.

Good post X. I am surprised that Nzoacha hasn't been receiving significant playing time. He seemed to be ballin' and then got hurt. It would seem that if he is healthy he should be active

He really needed the time that he missed in the preseason.

He might be the top backup MLB but the co-starters Hitchens and Durant have both been healthy.

1. DE - obvious.
2.. SS - safeties are good value in the draft and the secondary needs help.
3. CB - we're too thin here.
4. TE - need to roll the dice a couple of times to get a long term Witten replacement.

I'd draft:

  • Two DEs. One in the first, the other in second or third rd
  • OL
  • LB
  • WR
  • CB
I'd also look in free agency for: WR, DE ( a good one), LB - to replace durant and backup Lee
Anything else is graaaaaaavy

Pass rush is without a doubt the most pressing need.

Beyond that some more depth in the secondary and a new RT would all be on my list as well.

Good stuff. Some thoughts.

We need both a vet and rookie DE. Cant count on a rookie DE to make much of an impact in 2017 where we are drafting. It can happen, but we have to expect to bring him along. I like the thought of signing a guy like Ware to be a pass rush specialist and draft a guy in the 1st or 2nd to get some snaps in relief of him and Lawrence and to replace him in 2018 or 2019. You gotta take a long view with rookie DEs. Think Dee Ford.

QB, I think we will retain Sanchez. Better then most backup QBs in the NFL. Has playoff experience. Has a good relationship with Prescott. Would probably be buying low as opposed to how the Eagles got Daniels signing him off his best year.

RT, Id love to see that be Green. But I just cant trust him to be healthy.

CB, I agree with you wholy. You need to have 4 CBs you trust to play. If we keep Claiborne and not Carr we may need 5. We let both walk then we only have 2

WR, is a real first round dark horse for me. Thats where the value may be. Depends on what type of run there is on DE's.

TE is another first round darkhorse as well. Jake Butt or OJ Howard could be the top players available

This is why I want us to draft O.J. Howard.
