Disappointed about not getting a safety and 1 tech but pleased with what was done.
LVE - Could be a superstar. It was pretty clear well before the draft that he was going to be the pick. I was against it for one reason. I felt like LG was going to be wiped out of starting level talent by pick 50. It could not have worked out much better. Pleased with the 1st rd selection and super pleased with it after seeing what was available at 50.
Connor Williams - Thrilled with this pick. Was worried about starting Guard and I wanted one that could play Tackle in a pinch. That is what we got. A day one starter at LG but has the ability to play Tackle should the need arise. I wanted Wynn in the first and LB in the second. What we ended up with was better than what I wanted.
Gallup - Couldn't ask for a better pick at 81. Tough receiver that is super competitive. Doesn't go down easily and fights for every yard. A good route runner as well. If he was just a little bit faster he would probably have been the no 1 receiver in the draft.
Armstrong - I like this pick a lot. I think adding another DE is a bit of a luxury and I probably would have taken a Safety with this pick or a 1 tech but I have no problem with this player and I think he will be a good one.
Schultz - Smart player. Will take coaching well which is good because he has some deficiencies. I would have probably gone a different way with this pick but he certainly wasn't a reach and we do need TE's. He is good enough that he likely will see some playing time his rookie year which makes him a good pick way late in the 4th.
White - Solid Value in the 5th rd. A bit of an old school QB. Decent arm, super smart, but not real mobile. A bit of a statue in the pocket but could develop into a back-up that can win some games in a pinch.
Austin trade - He better work on ball protection or else he won't be around for long. Using him as a kick returner and web back should be interesting. Some real speed and could add another dimension to the offense. Huge value for pick 192. If he can avoid fumbles he could revive his career and become a fan favorite while creating headaches for opposing defensive coordinators.
Covington - The only real head scratcher of the draft for me. I thought there were still better LB options on the board at the time he was picked. I am sure the special teams coach must have seen something he really liked out of this kid and the LB coach may have thought he has some upside and possibly be good as a situational LB. Maybe a 3rd and short run stuffer. Too slow to be on the field on passing downs.
Wilson - Huge value at this point of the draft. Could see him developing into a competent no 3 receiver down the line. Not guaranteed to make the squad but with pick 208 he is about as good as it gets.
Scarborough - We needed a backup RB so this made sense. I thought we would go with the change of pace back option like a Hines, Ito Smith, Lindsay option but it sounds like Tavon Austin is going to fill that role and Scarborough could be a short yardage option and a guy capable of a heavy load should Zeke miss time. I can't quibble with this pick much. Solid value and will probably make the team and what more can you ask for a pick 236.
Switzer for Jihad Ward trade - With a crowded WR room and Tavon taking over KR duties, Switzer became redundant here. I would have like to get something other than Ward for him but the team did coach him and he was a 30 visit before the draft 2 years ago. They must see something in him. He does mean we at least did something at the DT position.
Solid draft, lots of new faces. Feels like a different team now. Xavier Woods better be one hell of a hidden gem at FS though because I go into every draft thinking we will finally get a legit safety and we never do. Byron Jones can eat a bag of dirt. He has all the measurables and skills to be that guy but is lacking in heart, desire and effort. He better do something this year at CB or he is going to be a bust.
