It's early for predictions. Free agents on the list if guys we like will be resigned and as usual Stephen will go cheap anyway. Draft board is still 3 months away from being complete and guys that fans believe will go in 1st round will fall to 2nd even 3rd or 4th round.
Anyways here goes with some guys I would like to Boys to get on draft weekend and although the chances are slim that we get more than one of these, I will take it as success.
1. Joey Porter CB Penn State - has the speed, size, length, hips and aggressiveness that Quinn loves and would make a Pro Bowl addition across from Diggs, the secondary becomes noticeably better with Diggs, Porter and Bland with Kearse, Hooker, Mukuamu and Bell and probably Joseph and Wright as backups. if he there at 26, I take him 1st.
2. Bijan Robinson RB Texas - most believe he goes top 15 at the very least but not me. Running backs are being somewhat devalued as 1st round picks and although he will be one, I think he goes late in the round. If Porter gone, then I would go Robinson. Zeke is probably released or traded or released and brought back in June with a very team friendly contract and Pollard will be back either on the franchise tag or a 3 year deal around $39 million. Robinson would be a perfect compliment to Pollard and when we have both in the backfield it will be very troublesome for defenses.
3. Dalton Kincaid TE Utah - face the facts that Schultz will be gone. Ferguson, Hendershot and McKeon will be around and they are good but Kincaid looks to me as the next Travis Kelse. Has same qualities with catching the ball, running routes, helping his QB, speed to take it the distance and great size. Some think 1st round but believe he will be in the second round even third depending on how many QBs go in the first along with OT and DE and LB.
4. Quinten Johnson WR TCU - has all the measurables but his inconsistent hands and route tree is limited, he needs to develop although he could be the new Noah Brown but way faster the 1st year. Lamb was great, Gallup will be better and completely healed, Tolbert will need to step up early in training camp and believe he has the talent to do so, and Turpin will be back. We could see Jerry opt for Odell Beckham at the right price as a free agent so getting say Johnson late 2nd or 3rd would be ideal.
5. O'Cyrus Torrance OG Florida - this is a guy that will make the O Line far better at LG, smart, quick, understand how to really play the position, looks like a 2nd round pick but again OG unless special like Martin tend to go late Day 2 or early Day 3. He definitely makes the line better and allows Tyler Smith to stay at LT. Having a line of Tyler Smith, Torrance, Biadasz, Martin and Steele with backups of Tyron Smith, Matt Waletzko, Farniok, and probably late round pick makes the team better and better at overall run blocking.
6. Cody Mauch OT North Dakota St - a guy that goes maybe 2nd round or depending on combine and work out as late as 5th round. A work in progress and yet a huge potential at RT or RG (when Martin retires).
7. Mazi Smith DL Michigan - could be a difference maker from the beginning as a run stopper, very quick, strong, can handle double teams. Listed a lot as a 2nd round guy but we all know true run stoppers usually go late Day 2 or in day 3. Would not be disappointed to see Dallas draft him in the 3rd or 4th rounds.
There are a number of LB and WR that should be available on Day 3 that make sense for us and even QB such as Duggan but where they are after the combine and personal workouts will give us a better clue.
As to free agents, I can only hope (wish/pray) that Dallas goes after Da'Ron Payne at DT as believe he improves the DL immensely and allows more of Parsons moving around. I do think we could draft a DE although with Lawrence, Williams, Armstong, Fowler and a cheap free agent that we will be good there. Same with LB as I believe we will resign Vander Esch, so have him, Parsons, Cox, Clark and have to wait and see on Barr and McKinley.
With McCarthy taking over the play calling, I won't be surprised if this is a more offense draft although have to see what McClay comes up with over next 2 plus months.
As to the situation of can we get more than one of those guys, the answer is yes since we do have some room with 1en picks (most likely) and depending how the board falls on draft weekend. If by some miracle with get Payne in free agency and maneuver enough to get my top 5 guys above then it would be the best off season EVER!
