Essentially yeah they remade DragonballZ in the more authentic version according to manga and the Japanese version.
Vomit.
I haven't seen the Japanese version of DB Kai, but the English version is one of the most awful edits I've ever seen. While storyline points and filler have been edited out or changed, making it more "authentic", the dialogue and action have been dumbed down so bad I can't even watch it.
Perhaps this isn't the fault of the creators. Perhaps the massive amounts of editing comes from the TV networks it's being aired on. But the violence of the show is massively edited out, and the English dialogue is dumbed down in a way that makes me think that they are trying to make it easier for kids to follow along.
Maybe on DVD it wouldn't be edited so harshly, and maybe in the Japanese version the Dialogue isn't dumbed down like it is in English.
DBZ was edited quite a bit when it aired on Cartoon Network. Blood was turned into dirt in lots of different spots, and some scenes (Freeza bobbing Krillin up and down on his horns) were flat out removed when aired, but at least the DVD version had all the unedited scenes.
They did remove all cursing in the English verison (Vegeta can have a rather dirty mouth in the Japanese version), but it didn't change anything vital, and the English dub was actually pretty alright.
As for DB Kai? On TV it's too edited for me to take seriously. They completely cut out entire scenes, remove blood, remove the actual CONTACT of a punch. You just see the swing, and then hear a noise as it cuts to the next scene. I noticed this frequently.
The dialogue is the worst part though. It's so obviously dubbed with younger children in mind, which is odd considering it's a show about crazy fist fighting and exploding entire civilizations with power blasts.
The one thing DB Kai does right though is edit out all the random scenes of faces just staring at one another. DB Kai is WAY shorter than DBZ due to massive amounts of face time cut out.
Seriously rewatch DBZ, there are like entire 5 minute segments where you just see random character faces.. with no dialogue at all. lol.
Even in the clip you posted, Krillans death is pretty harshly edited =p. In the real scene you see Krillian actually explode (Chest gets bigger before he bursts), then there are pieces falling out of the explosion =p
Then again the show does come on Before Spongebob.. so what can you expect.
