Cost overruns, however, led to a final cost of $38,000,000 (38 MILLION), which was about the same as NASA's original estimate. Four lunar rovers were built, one each for Apollo missions 15, 16, and 17; and one used for spare parts after the cancellation of further Apollo missions.

38 million in 1969 money. lol. Compare that to what the most expensive car cost in 1969. In 1969, the most expensive and luxurious Cadillac you could buy (not counting limousines) had a $7,110 sticker price. The Daytona cost nearly double that and listed for nearly $17,000.

That's just market value for a lunar rover. Be thankful they built them when they did and didn't wait another five years. The Russians might have reset the market driven the price up to 50 Mil.
