Falcons | Duckett a short timer; Norwood to take his spot?
Tue, 20 Jun 2006 21:28:15 -0700

Charles Robinson, of Yahoo Sports, reports Atlanta Falcons RB T.J. Duckett may be a long shot to remain with the Falcons in 2006. The team, as previously noted, has been trying to trade him with no success so far. According to a league source, the Falcons have abandoned the notion of Duckett materializing as an elite running back in a zone blocking scheme and are now looking toward rookie third-round draft pick RB Jerious Norwood. According to the source, the Falcons think once Norwood adds some strength and acquaints himself with the offense, he will begin to eat into Duckett's carries and can be groomed to replace the aging RB Warrick Dunn.

Hello Pittsburgh.
They do need someone to replace Bettis and Duce is never going to stay healthy to do it. Duckett could be a prefect fit.

Falcons will most likely have to release him and cut the loss

What loss? Their only investment is time, and the going rate for salaries, a cost they would have borne regardless of who it was.
