Eagles extend Cam Jurgens...can Jerry extend Tyler please??

Why can't we get ahead on an extension for Tyler Smith???

Jurgens is coming off back surgery, but apparently believe Jurgens will be 100% for the next four years.

Player has to be in the league for 3 years before they’re extension eligible. Tyler was drafted in 2023

But this is another example of Howie signing a dude the second he can, and not even to top C money either

Well then I have no defense as to why not
Jurgens is not a first round pick. Since Tyler Smith is, they are choosing to wait an extra year. Dallas could extend him this year, but they don't usually sign 1st round draft picks after 3 years. They did wait one year too many on signing Osa.

And it will cost us more because of "Last Minute" Jerry.

This is just a guess. I think they waited too long on Osa because they weren't sure about him. What good is getting a cheaper contract if the players isn't any good? They waited, and paid for it.

They'll pay more for Tyler Smith next year too. But this year his cap hit is negligible.

Cap number as of today that I see is $19 million. Tyler is worth it.

Tyler was drafted in 2022 so he is eligible. However its not common for a 1st rounder to sign before year 4. Jurgens being a day 2 pick was entering a walk year. Day 2 players typically extend after year 3

His market value is 19m. His cap hit for this year is 4.2M. That's why I think they're not addressing it. They just don't see the need. I'm sure they'll extend him next year.

It’s more likely Smith's camp and not us. Its not in his best interest to sign now
I think this is just a regurgitated front office excuse. There isn’t an agent alive who would turn down top dollar today for top dollar tomorrow. The only players you ever hear about even considering that are guys who are only offered lowball deals and they need to have “prove it” years. Thats the opposite of Smith’s situation; If Tyler signed a deal right now he’d be a top 3 paid guard. The player/agent has everything to lose just to gain a couple more million by waiting.
