Eagles want to trade up for a safety

here's to hoping someone hoses them good, for moving up high, and they give away most of their top draft picks in first 3 rounds.

With four of the first 70 picks in next week's draft, the Philadelphia Eagles have the ability to put together a package to trade up. And that's reportedly what they want to do, if they can trade up to a spot where one of the top two safeties will be available.

Peter King of SI.com reports that the Eagles want to move up into first half of the first round, and that they'd like to get either Eric Berry of Tennessee or Earl Thomas of Texas. (Our mock draft has Berry going seventh and Thomas going 21st.)

King writes that the Dolphins, who have the 12th pick, could be the Eagles' trading partners. Dolphins boss Bill Parcells would like to have a second-round pick, but Miami currently doesn't have one after the Brandon Marshall trade.

For Philadelphia, moving up would likely involve the Eagles giving up their own first-round pick (24th overall) and one or two of their other picks, which include the 35th, 55th and 70th overall.

I always hated that Earl Thomas
Me too, I heard he failed a drug test. Pass it on.

Anybody can trade up. It's obvious the Eagles have more bait but that doesn't mean they are moving up. OTOH, they need a safety. Moving to 12 to pick Thomas seems a waste to me though. I'd move up then trade back down some and still get him IMO.

Brian Dawkins is getting long-in-the-tooth, but the Eagles would not be seeking a high round solution to their safety problem if they had only paid the man.

Brian Dawkins is in Denver, he was not resigned last year.

Perhaps Denver will take ET before the Eagles get their chance.

Because they're cheap and they think they are draft gods. Seriously I think that FO has this large ego that they can draft superstars at will and make Dawkins replaceable. Looks like that hasn't worked out so far, has it?

I have a lot of respect for Lurie & Company's front office, but in Dawkins' case, I agree with you. His absence from the Eagles' defense made Jim Johnson's absence even that much larger (and Johnson's death impacted Philadelphia more than can be quantified in words).

No matter what any non-Eagle fan may think of Dawkins, he's been an excellent safety in this league during his entire career. He's going to be hard to replace, no matter who Philly selects next week.

For sure, but a trade with the Phins does make sense.
That's very true. If both team swap first-rounders, it's a win-win for both of clubs. Miami may be able to have Denver include their mid-second rounder to recoup the one previously traded away.

That would suck if the Eagles got Berry or Thomas.
