One of the greatest is right. I remember sitting w/ my grandfather listening to Scruggs. My grandfather taught me the mandoline when I was small and he loved to pick. Scruggs was one of his favorites to listen to.

Bluegrass was huge in our family when I was small.

One of the best banjo players ever to play the instrument. If you don't know who he was, and have netflix, they have the old Flatt and Scruggs shows. He also co-wrote and performed the Beverly Hillbillies theme song.

Not one of the greatest... THE greatest...

The Earl Scruggs Review was pure genius. For those that think banjo is a backwoods instrument, you should listen to Scruggs... and then Bela Fleck (New Grass Revival). Fleck is probably the second best banjo player ever. Roy Clark probably 3rd and Ricky Skaggs 4th...

It's a HIGHLY complex instrument and he did things no one else did...

RIP to a genius...

He and Lester are finally together again.

He is without a doubt the most influential banjo player who has ever lived.

There is bluegrass in heaven tonight. In his honor..."Gone Home" by Bill Carlisle that they played the heck out of.

Was that Jeff Healey? I didn't even realize he had died. I brought him up tonight with some friends of mine earlier while we were playing an acoustic and this guy told me he had died. Sure enough, he died back in 2008 of cancer. I had no idea he did.

No i didnt see Jeff Healey in the bunch.
The guitarist with the longer gray hair is Albert Lee and the guy on dobro is Jerry Douglas.

Yes it was, Steve Martin. :p: A lot of peeps don't know just how passionate Martin is about his banjo.

He is very good, I thought too.

The guy on the Red Telecaster is Albert Lee. He played w/ Clapton and Amy Lou Harris, The Crickets, Everly Bros etc..

He is from Jolly Ole England. ;) 5x voted best country guitarist by guitar player magazine.

I'm confused at how you guys though I was confusing Albert Lee being Jeff Healey and not clearly Jerry Douglas. Jerry Douglas definitely looks more like Jeff Healey and definitely plays like Jeff Healey. (guitar in his lap) :lmao2:

I'm not sure you can put Roy Clark behind anybody on any instrument he plays. He's inhuman.

Not to take anything from the thread main topic. Earl Scruggs was an amazing picker.

Speaking of Roy Clark. I found this old vid of him and Cash

I love finding this old stuff. Took me wayyy back w/ this song and style of just simple fun entertainment.
