We will be heading to Groton,Conn. in October for our nephews graduation from sub school,or I think the Navy calls it "A" school. We will leave the week before, and spend two or three days in DC touring around. The only definite on MY list of things to see is the Air & Space Museum, which I will get to see on my own. The rest of the entourage, all female, could care less about seeing it,so they will go to the american history museum instead. I think we would like to see the National Archives, with the Declaration of Independence, etc.
A couple of questions for anyone who is familiar with the area:
* If you only had a couple of days, what would you see?
* How easy is it to get around the city using mass transportation, especially to the tourist attractions?

We will go from there up to the Groton area, and have the weekend to tour around.
*Any must see things there? We may be staying in or around Mystic, and will only be an hour or so from Boston.
* Any recommendations for really good seafood or lobster?

Anything will help.

I visited D.C. for the first time in 2005. So things are probably all the same.

We also went to the Air & Space Museum. My lovely wife was nice enough to tag along and take pictures of me in front of every cool plane they have in there. That place was very cool. I envy you having a full day with no women (nothing against women. Love's me some women, I'm just sayin) to hold you back from doing exactly what it is you were there for. And no one to make fun of you when you get totally verklempt over some of the historic display.

If you think you might want to go up in the Washington Monument, get there very early to get tickets. We were there around 5pm and they were just taking the folks who had signed in at 8am.

We used cab's when we were there. We had no problem getting around at all. In fact, our last cabbie, the one who took us back to the parking garage where we were parked, was friggin Dale Earnhardt and Dirty Harry all rolled into one. He cut people off then threatened to shoot them when they objected. That was a wild ride. Lost my stinkin cell phone in the back of that cab. Whichever Skins fan found it got to see a nice big picture of Darren Woodson as my wallpaper.

If you take a cab, tell him to take you to the Lincoln Memorial. From there it takes you straight through the Vietnam Memorial. Past the big reflecting pool thing. On up to the WWII Memorial and then to the Washington Monument.

We ate McDonald's when we got there, so I really can't help you much with a restaurant recommendation.

I'll be going to NYC for the first time myself on the 26th of this month. I'm totally stoked.

Hope you all have a good time.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input,RomoSapien. I had heard that the mass transit system in DC was user friendly from outlying areas, but cabs might be the way to go. I was hoping we were playing the deadskins that weekend,as I would have paid top dollar to go to that one. alas, not to be. The weekend we leave we play the Chiefs,I believe, anfd the next weekend is our bye,so I won't miss seeing a game.
