Ecstasy could be used to cure cancer after scientists modified the drug to increase its tumour-killing properties.

Researchers from Birmingham University claimed the designer drug, also known as MDMA, could be used to treat leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma after making it 100 times more effective at suppressing growth.

Ecstasy was already known to be effective against more than half of white blood cell cancers, but previously the large dose required to treat a tumour would also have killed the patient.

Here's a medical research story I never expected to see. I suppose even if the Ecstasy didn't cure your cancer you would learn to lovingly embrace it...

If it helps it helps that is great news. I will say Morphine has been used medically as well but really don't think wide spread use is a good idea

Interesting stuff.

It's crazy how areas of research evolve over time.

Very interesting, especially because the research involves MDMA. I wonder if the patient experiences the effects of the drug or not.

I was so surprised by how outdated my GP's thought process was, I switched doctors and won't be going back.

Umm MDMA is Ex. So yes, the patient feels the entire effect. I don't think you can isolate it so that they do not.

The documentary I watched the other night was showing the cancer patients tore up from the floor up, after taking the prescribed MDMA.

Um, the drug was modified and there could be a way to treat someone with MDMA and give them another drug to reduce or eliminate the symtoms, if there are even symptoms from the modified version of the drug.

If it's modified MDMA, it's probably not exactly MDMA anymore.

I haven't seen the documentary. What's it called? And are they using this same drug?

I've read that four times and have no idea what it means. Can you clarify?

Oh, like "three sheets to the wind" except different?

No, it's pretty much the same thing. :D

Term describing current state of mind and body usually caused by obscene usage of drugs and or alcohol.

Awesome if it works.

And why WOULDN'T you want to feel the effects of the MDMA? I mean if it's being used to "Help" you, you might as well enjoy the awesome high.

Hey I'm slow. What can I say?

Me too, really. I always took cop out courses for Science like Native Plants and Astronomy with no math. I always like to read Eskimo's thoughts on medical and scientific stuff, though.

I've forgotten astronomy, but the plant class came in handy with latin.

But even though I'm scientifically challenged, I'm still fascinated by lots of science related things.

I never done anything but prescription drugs prescribed to me but all I know after my ankle surgery they gave me vicodin I hated the feeling of being stoned so I dealt with the pain and stopped using them after two days.

Some of us do not like being high

To each their own, nothing wrong with that

But I can't resist adding that Vicodin is NOTHING like MDMA.

It's pretty hard to not enjoy MDMA. It releases your Serotonin, which is the chemical that makes you happy.. so it's hard to avoid the enjoyment since your brain is flooded with happiness.

When you're in a good mood, your brain is releasing serotonin. MDMA releases it all at once 8D

I'm simplifying it to be sure, but that's the gist.

My uncle is that way. After back surgery he endured the pain instead of taking the pain medication. Me on the other hand I'll gladly take anything to stop the pain

But back to what I was saying earlier. Some drugs are mixed with other drugs, even on the street. Like MDMA is mixed with opiates or amphetamines in order to sort of alter the effects of the drug.

I was wondering if there is a way to sedate the patient so they're not wigging.

MDMA and VICODIN are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.

Vicodin just blocks pain.

MDMA makes your brain secrete large amounts of Saratonin, which is the chemical in your brain that makes you feel "happy" basicly. The highs could not be any more different. I'd venture to say NOBODY would dislike the high that you get from MDMA...from what I've been told. haha.
