LOS ANGELES — Ed McMahon, the loyal “Tonight Show” sidekick who bolstered boss Johnny Carson with guffaws and a resounding “H-e-e-e-e-e-ere’s Johnny!” for 30 years, has died at a Los Angeles hospital. He was 86.

Publicist Howard Bragman says McMahon died early today at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Bragman didn’t give a cause of death, saying only that McMahon had a “multitude of health problems the last few months.”

McMahon had bone cancer, among other illnesses, according to a person close to the entertainer, and had been hospitalized for several weeks. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information.

He was the perfect sidekick. Loyal, dependable and laughed at all of Johnny's jokes. What a great laugh.

RIP, Ed.

Well, he no longer has to worry about creditors and ex-wives bleeding him dry. Bye, Ed.

I wish Ed the best in the after-life and remind him he's now One Step Closer To Winning The Ultimate Dream Prize!

Say hi to Johnny for us!

No one has ever introduced a show host onto a stage like Ed McMahon. His buildup for Carson before the monologue was legendary. Rest in peace, McMahon.

The leak was probably a hospital employee. His or her identity should be kept secret or there could be reprecussions. Federal law stipulates that releasing that information would result in civil and/or criminal penalties for the individual and/or hospital, with fines ranging up to $25,000 - $50,000 or as high as $250,000 and serving one to five years in prison. Federal prison.

I loved the Johnny Carson Show/The Tonight Show.

As a kid, I didn't appriciate it enough. Now I see what passes for entertainment and I realize that we were all privilaged to be able to watch it.

RIP Ed McMahon.

I wonder of Johnny said... "H-e-e-e-e-e-ere’s Ed!" As he walked through the gates of Heaven. ..or Hell ;)

Yeah, like Michael Irvin's 4th and Long.

Not many people realize he was a decorated fighter pilot in WWII and retired a Marine Colonel...

He was also commissioned as a Brigadier General in the California Air National Guard...

RIP Ed... and thanks for your service...

Spoken for truth.

"Comedy" of today is filthy and mean spirited and all too often vicious.
Or just plain stupid. I hardly watch any modern "comedians" anymore.
