Speaking with IndustryGamers, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello puts the previous Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony-led console market into post-iPad perspective:

Consoles used to be 80% of the industry as recently as 2000. Consoles today are 40% of the game industry, so what do we really have?

We have a new hardware platform and we’re putting out software every 90 days. Our fastest growing platform is the iPad right now and that didn’t exist 18 months ago.

This was for the people that argued with me about the iPad not being a gaming device. I couldn't pass up the "told ya so" moment. :)

Playing Angry Birds and such isn't really gaming persay.

Hell, Facebook probably leads the gaming industry with FarmVille and the rest of that crap.

You mean to tell me if I play Yahtzee I'm not a hardcore gamer?

Screw that...

I'm not sure what "persay" means, but I think I probably disagree with you anyway.

He means Angry Birds and those crappy game apps don't exactly equal gaming. I agree with him.

On the other hand, Apple may be a cool company if they put the same apps on the MB pro as the Ipad.

But Apple, wanting your every last dime, wants you to have a separate device for "more advanced apps".

You buy the gimmick; I'll stick with my xbox and Apple buyer's remorse.

I mean I'm not going to lie, I really do like the style of Apple products. They're very simple and very elegant. There is a reason why a lot of companies copy this simplicity.

However, for me it's not worth the price. The price to performance ratio just isn't good enough for me. You're paying for a nice product, sure, and the warranty that goes along with it, but for those who can maintain their own PC's there are other solutions to building an elegant PC if you're in to that kind of thing. Plenty of good looking cases on the market and if you're hard up for a simple OS then a lot of Linux distributions (My choice is GNOME based) provide that.

Linux has come a long way. I remember when they wouldn't even detect my mouse, times have changed though. Installation of a distribution like Ubuntu for me requires me to install ZERO drivers on both PC's in my house. Plus, it's free.

It's great that "gaming" is going more mainstream. My mother-in-law could never handle playing real games on a console, but she plays facebook games like crazy and she likes playing angry birds on her smart phone too.

Anybody who thinks mobile gaming is going to somehow kill PC/console gaming is crazy, but there's no doubt that it's becoming part of the gaming world.

Gaming on smartphones and tablets is like taking photos on them. You don't do it when you are doing serious photography, you do it to snap a quick photo. It's the same with this type of "gaming."

If anything, mobile gaming is great for those of us that play full experience games, because publishers like EA and activision are going to sell mobile games and bring in a ton of low effort revenue to help support the bigger projects.

Doesnt really work like that since Apple took the "i____" for almost every product of theirs. Android hasn't made an aphone, or an apad.

I'm a big Android fan but own 2 ipod touches so i'm not totally against apple but your obsession WITH everything Apple is pretty fascinating.

I like Apple and I dislike Apple. Me, I prefer the OS because I became accustomed to it as a student. Apple really hit a home run by marketing education for so long. That's where their core base of people spread the fad outward and then again back inward where like 70% of students are using apple hardware.

If you're truly and avid gamer, try out Lord of Ultima.

I had to kick the habit though.

The iPad is as much a gaming console as a PC is a gaming console. It's a device that just HAPPENS to play games. Should not even be in the same category.

You should qualify that. PC's are most definately hardcore gaming devices. But if they were limited to solitaire or minesweeper, that would be different.

True.

I've never been a PC gamer nor an Ipad gamer. But if I had the choice, I'm thinking a PC. But I can see an Ipad being cool if you had a rocking game and then used your ipad connected to your HD tv or something....

Thing is, I do that with my xbox and it works great, streams movies and has yet to be hacked.

It, too, I think has more potential than what it does. But who is to say Microsoft won't put a dime in it and get their act together with a keyboard integrated system with MMOs and Facebook, twitter etc...

But that'd defeat the purpose of PCs.

My problem with the tech industry as a whole is the companies normally devise schemes and technological gimmicks to get you to spend money... not to give you necessarily the most technology can give you.
