November 8th, 1999 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Emmitt scores on a 64 yard run. The Vikings return man fumbles the ensuing kickoff. Emmitt scores on a 24 yard run.

Unfortunately, Randy Moss was playing for the Vikings.

He had about 140 at halftime and I thought he would break the record but he broke his hand on the 2nd to last run that scored a TD.

This was also the same week Walter Payton died.

He had a potential 300 yard game going. Who knows how many he would have had without the injury.

Also notice how we lose games against Minnesota when our RBs go crazy. There's this game by Emmitt and Dorsett's 99 yard run game in 82.

I remember watching this game very well and thought Emmitt was going to crush the single game rushing record after that 2nd run. Shame he broke his hand.

Don't forget the 2000 Thanksgiving game. Emmitt had 12 carries for 100 yards and left early with a concussion.

I heard he actually tried to finish the game. I wonder who made the decision to keep him out. Man, I was SICK when they announced Emmitt was out for the rest of the game. I still find myself wondering every now and then what kind of a roll he would have been on if not for the hand injury. He definitely would have run away with the rushing title.

He made the second td run with the broken hand, so he could still go.
I think he still wanted to play.

I was at that game. First time we played them after getting destroyed by Moss on Thanksgiving the year before.I was so stoked about our play in the first half but we couldn’t keep it up. I thought the game was on November 1st and it was 70 degrees in MSP that day. A fun day. A great day for Emmitt. Too bad we lost.

People talk QBs you rather have in big games. But as far as running backs go in big games, it’s Emmitt hands down.
For sure. I believe he’s older than Zeke is now when he made that long run. He still had plenty of moves and speed. I don’t think Zeke will ever have a 60 yard run again. People can say what they want about Emmitt but his durability and consistency are what separates him from everyone else.

Wondering what Zeke has to do with the thread? I didn't think TRomo would get a ring after looking at Troy highlights. Now see what happens on this board.

Wondered the same thing, tape it up and get back out there.

Never had top flight speed. His ability was great vision to see the hole before it opened and acceleration to hit the open hole quickly as well as low base and huge thighs, with his low center of balance.

I remember Norv used him in the passing game with more creativity that our garbage OCs that followed.

Emmitt was quicker than just about everybody. This is what allowed him the long runs without having world class speed. Although, Emmitt was much faster than people give him credit for. If you watch his highlight reels on youtube you will see him outrun a lot of DBs. It was only the Greens and Deions that were going to run him down from behind.
