Sounds like an indictment more of the players than of the coaches.
Weak links in our lineup are the main problem and have been. When you fill spots, and not just depth spots, with cheap free agents, you generally get what you pay for. Are there things other coaches might do better to cover those deficiencies? Yeah, but as other coaches have said, you're only as good as your talent. Teams can overcome weak links against weak teams, but when they face teams playing at a high level, those weak links get exposed.
This is why we have not reached an NFC Championship Game in nearly 30 years. Players and coaches have come and gone, but the problem remains ... and that problem is talent acquisition. We've either been good at costly FA acquisition (pre-Parcells) or drafted player acquisition, but we haven't used both together to the point where we don't have too many "play B and play C" (Emmitt probably meant plan B and plan C) players on the field.
NOTE: I'm not saying that we have to have stars at every position, but we have to have more than cheap fill-ins, whether we're talking about inexpensive free agents or draft picks who are only out there because we have nothing better.
