Well, here we are again. Another Cowboys season finished. This time after losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the division round. To be sure, it was a disappointing end. However, I will give my perspective as a young fan at this time.
I will start by saying that I'm sad that we are not going to the NFC Championship or Super Bowl as I've never seen us get to that level. I would like at some point for us to get to those levels soon. This was a disappointing end to a very good season.
With that paragraph being said, I have to say, well done to the Cowboys! I know that I haven't seen much success since becoming a Cowboys fan. However, this was the best season I've had since becoming a Cowboys fan. This team had it's ups and downs. However, I am proud of how this season stuck together when previous Cowboys teams would've faltered and collapses. This team was without it's starting QB for about 4-5 games. Let's be honest. A lot of us were writing off the season. Between the lack of free agent signings, the battering at the hands of the Bucs to start the season, and the fact that we were without a starting QB, this could very easily have been a losing season. Yet, this team went 12-5 for the second straight season. A feat that I don't know the last time we accomplished.
This is where I get to the part about our coaches. Well done to them all. Last year, we were one and done. This year, despite all of the mentioned adversity, the team managed to beat Tom Brady (a feat never before accomplished) on the road (last accomplished 30 years ago). Then, we had to go cross country to face the second seed. We lost. However, we put up a fight in a game where few if any gave us any chance of winning.
I think the biggest needs are a kicker and a nose tackle. I know some will blame Dak. However, I will counter and say that he played a good game overall. I think the momentum was lost when Maher missed the XP. Then, I think the reason that he threw the second interception was because he couldn't trust Maher. I think if he is able to trust Maher, then he might not have had to be so aggressive.
Overall, it didn't end the way we wanted. However, for me as a young fan, this was the best season I've experienced yet. Especially considering we beat Tom Brady. Maybe we lost to the 49ers, but we took Brady with us. Who thought we'd do that starting the year?
