IRVING, Texas -- As the players were leaving Valley Ranch on Thursday afternoon, several had gifts under their arms.

Right tackle Marc Colombo walked to the trainers room carrying a brown Gucci bag courtesy of running back Marion Barber. Quarterback Jon Kitna handed out iPads to the offensive linemen.

Wide receiver Roy E. Williams and running back Tashard Choice were going through their gifts at their lockers.

That's great stuff...good camaraderie.

For all that he does, I've heard TO is one of the most generous gift-givers to teammates in the NFL.

I remembered when Wade was here in past years, that I felt the team was divided.

I felt that the offense and the defense thought they were sererate factions. Guys took the occassional jab at the other unit after one of them underperformed and vice versa.

I feel like that's no longer the case.

Really? That's the total opposite of how I perceive Wade's time. He was all about family and the guys intermingling.

Them exchanging gifts is not something that JG has fostered. This is just what they do in probably every lockerroom in the NFL.

I understand how he preached 53 man family and all that.

But for a while, it seemed either our offense or our defense kept us in a game. And I remember guys taking shots at other sides of the ball. Particularly the defense, ironically talking about the offense's production and protecting the football.

I remember December of 2008 being the peak of al that.

You mean 2008 when T.O. was here and all that nonsense? Yeah, ok.

I guess you missed 2007 when everything was just hunky dory and everybody just loved one another.

In 2008, T.O. started his Romo-Witten fantasy plays nonsense, and all of a sudden the team isn't a family. And the defense WAS keeping the offense in games, because the offense was sputtering.

Get rid of T.O. in 2009 and all of a sudden, Miles breaks out, and the team is a family again. Go figure.

All that said, exchanging gifts still isn't indicative of anything more than folks celebrate Xmas. I wouldn't attribute it to either of the coaching influences. Only difference this year is the fact that there's an article about it.

Then there was guard Leonard Davis, who was looking for a gift from starting quarterback Tony Romo.

Davis joked with reporters he hadn't received one yet because Romo was spending money on other things like an engagement ring.

or maybe hes spending money on Dr Andrew because his protectors cant do their jobs

The offense was sputtering because Romo had a broken finger and we were playing four of the best defenses in all of football (with our 3rd string RB). The defense had nothing to run their mouth about, it wasn't like they were making any plays or winning any games for us.

Owens was a scapegoat, the same problems before are still here.

And teams suddenly have great chemistry and are a 'family' when they're winning, funny how that works.

TBH, I could care less about what happened in 2008. It's not a matter of whether I like T.O. or not, lockerrom fracture, Tony's leadership, or any other nonsense. I think it's dumb to try to attribute the players exchanging gifts in 2010 to some sort of familial culture change due to Jason Garrett.

I can almost guarantee that there's never been any articles about it in all the time I've been posting articles on the Zone. But because the DFW media is scrounging for storylines before a meaningless game, now the 'boys exchanging gifts is news.

C'mon, these guys exchange gifts, buy each other dinner, and have a ton of lockerroom traditions that have nothing to do with the coaches influence. Let's not make a simple report on what guys bought for each other more than what it is.

Hopefully they will all get a heart, some guts, and courage to not quit every other year or so.

Exactly. Romo is the LAST person this line should be expecting a gift from.
