ESPN Mosley: Spears doesn't love his tender

speaking of hard to understand, show me where he said he doesn't love his tender. also show us where it says the Cowboys don't want to give him an extension.

"Tough man! That's the way it is, man, it's business," Spears said via text.

I'd say Spears' quote says he's not very happy about it. How could he be?

Also, I'd say giving the two backup DEs bigger tenders point to the team not wanting to bring him back. I think they'd gladly take the extra 2nd or 1st round pick and go with a rotation of Bowen, Hatcher, Dixon, and a rookie at that spot.

just like last year....Canty wanted MORE than Ratliff was getting...and it simply was not going to happen. Spears probably wants more than Ratliff got...heck he probably wants more the Igor got...and it is NOT happening. The big money in this defense is reserved for LBers and/or Richard Seymour/Jay Ratliff types. Speras is NEITHER. I was praying the Raiders would not franchise Seymour so we can see what a REAL DE in a 3-4 looks like. Oh well.

I hope he doesn't cry like that sissy Greg Ellis.

Shut up and be happy you get $1 mil to play a game. That's $980,000 more than you would get at Walmart or Home Depot.

And being a Dallas Cowboy, you also get the fringe benefit of chicks.

Have a monster year this year and you will get the "big" bucks.

Yeah, it really is tough, Spence, Mr. Underachiever for most of your career here.
Suck it up, son, and play harder and smarter and maybe you will one day get Hatchers mon-ay.:)

I'd play for a thousand bucks and think I was the luckiest guy in the world.

Maybe he just wants more than two players who, according to the Dallas coaches, aren't good enough to unseat him out of his starting spot.

Not to mention he watched Canty sign for a bazillion dollars last offseason as a UFA.

But he also watched when Canty was a restricted free agent and only received a one-year tender. I think his quote about football being a business shows he understands it's not personal.

life isn't fair. roy williams makes the most money on the offense outside of romo. but there was going to be no reason for dallas to throw extra money to spears for this year if he was going to be protected for the same compensation unless i'm missing something (which is totally possible :laugh2:).

1.226mil 1st round pick compensation as lowest tender
1.7 mil 2nd round pick compensation (what bowen and hatcher got)
2.3 mil? 1st round pick compensation

if he wanted his money, he should have been playing hard and producing since day 1...not just the last year or so when his contract was coming up.

Parcells called him Fats Domino and Chubby Checker. After that he really should have worked his fat off and proven BP wrong. But nooooooo, he's the same shape as he was when we used a 1st round pick on him.

Remember after BP was gone Spears talked about how he would now be free to make plays?

Bowen was a free agent so an original tender wasn't possible. I was surprised that Hatcher didnt get the original draft pick tender.

Spears wouldn't accept being a backup when Ratliff moves over to DE. Bowen and Hatcher are good backups that are competitive but aren't issues when they have to backup.

Jamal Williams is on the horizon with a draft pick to back him up at nose. I was waiting to see what goes on with Spears and it looks as serious as it could be. If we could get a 2nd, JW's heir apparent at NT could be selected and groomed while backing up.

I don't love me tender.

Thank you.

Thank you very much.

Let's also remember, that if we want more than one option in FA, it helps if a couple of guys who aren't that critical get signed by someone else.

RFAs don't count in that equation (either for us to lose or for us to sign). The only player for us who counts for that equation is Montrae Holland.

sure he's solid but when is the last time you saw him chase down the qb and eat him alive??? seriously he needs to shut his mouth and play some football!

I was wondering about this.

Man, if that is correct and the right team signs him, I would say adios in a heart beat. I think Hatcher can do the same job if need be.

And I like Spears.

I find myself wondering if this isn't sending us a message that the Boys like Marcus Dixon a lot, and think they can live without Spears... so they might hope some team bites with an offer sheet, and take the first round pick, rather than risk losing him for nothing next offseason...

They might think that Olshansky, Hatcher, Bowen and Dixon is an adequate DE rotation...

Or they might think that they can move Jay Ratliff out to DE... <ducking for cover>
