Anyone else here get nauseous when they exercise?

For as long as I can remember, I've gotten nauseous doing certain exercises. For instance, if I'm playing basketball I'll get pretty nauseous after a few trips up and down the court. Or if I'm playing football (recreational flag or touch), a few series of running routes or covering someone gets me nauseous as well. Today it happened when I was doing a couple of trips up the local sand dune.

If I take a break and let it pass, I am usually good to go. Sometimes I'll need a couple of breaks and after that it seems like I'm ready to go. I juat hate the feeling.

Anyone else deal with this? Any strategies to combat it?

Probably a lack of oxygen. Sounds like you have breathing issues.

I used to for the first practice of Two-A-Days in August back in high school, or when I first started working out hardcore again, a few months ago, after years of not doing anything exercise wise. My body was never ready for the jolt at those points but in short order, after doing these things, it went away and I don't feel that way anymore

I dont know anyone whose had it happen every time they do something like you're doing unless you're going a really long period of time between the times you're playing basketball or football.

Could also be what you eat before and how long before you eat it(espcially if it has dairy in it). When I first started mountain biking(a morning sport mostly) I was pretty out of shape and had trouble keeping my breakfast down. So I started getting up earlier to eat earlier and having oatmeal or a peanut butter sandwich.

sounds to me like you're going to hard and going over your lactate threshold. basically you push your body to the extent that you cant get enough oxygen into the bloodstream so your body starts producing lactic acid to slow you down. lack of oxygen makes you nauseas and lactic acid will usually give you a burning sensation in your muscles. think thats roughly right, its been about ten years since i did that stuff at college. heres a wiki link if you think that sounds like the problem

Yeah, I guess I left out the important part about how I typically do these things after long periods of inactivity. I've always attributed it to just being out of shape, but have wondered if there is something more serious to it, or if there is anything I can do to combat it.

I think it's more likely due to being out of shape. I've experienced the same thing on several occasions.

Played a game of tackle football my 4th year of college. It was pretty intense, and after about fifteen minutes i threw up something fierce....although the hangover, the iced coffee, and the bigbite from 7-11 probably didn't help.

I had the same feeling when I first started training for rugby.

..and again the first few days I started P90x.

The all went away after a little bit of conditioning.

Have you ever suffered from motion sickness?

I suffer from motion sickness. I can't run a mile (or jog) without wanting to pass out but can train for 2 hours in the pool no problems. I do get a headache if I do too much butterfly or breaststroke at a time. If I'm running on a treadmill, I would have to hold the side lightly to keep my head from bouncing too much.

I've never taken any motion sickness medication, even the non-drowsy, to see if it will work against it.

Do some pool exercises - do laps with freestyle or treading water if you know how for 5 minutes and see if you still have nausea.

just the thought of exercise makes me sick at my stomach !!!

For some reason, I yawn a lot when I work out. I also yawn when I read.

Considering how much dribble runs across this CowboysZone forum, I can deduce that you yawn a lot while reading CowboyZone. :laugh2:

That's what I'm thinking, or it could even be a heart issue.

You should have a doctor check you out ... just a physical, but tell them about this.

Also water intake start drinking days before not just the day off. Increase your water intake it will help reduce some of those feelings and it helps the body alot if you are properly hydrated which most if us adults are not due to things like beer; cokes and coffee.
