It is no longer premature. I know Broaddus and others respond to questions about extending him with "Get him to week 5 first" but I think we can get a bargain. If you can get him on a bargain do it now. He is the best player on the defense and it's not close. Last thing we need is him continuing to play great and hitting free agency this summer.

Who would have thought that we lose Lee and Holloman, and go with Ro, Durant and freaking Bruce Carter (and even Hitchens, who pretty much everyone hated when he was drafted) and they more then hold their own, they actually seem to be gelling. Extending Ro might not be that premature at all, but does that mean the end of Sean Lee? Was Lee getting hurt a blessing in disguise?

Durant's deal is up after this year.. My guess is the Cowboys could keep McClain at MLB, move Lee to WLB, and keep Carter at SAM.

I know some are questioning RoMc" s reliability, but Jerry has made worse moves. Getting a bargain and a tremendous player wouldn't hurt.

I was never against the Ro trade, considering it cost us almost nothing and we were quite desperate for a MLB. It could turn out to be the best trade Jerry has made in a long, long time.

I agree we need to extend Ro, and if Murray keeps it up there is no way now we can let him walk, either. If we can plug a few holes on the D during the off-season, a Super Bowl run next year is certainly a legitimate possibility. I still can't believe the defensive game plan against the Cowboys nowadays is stopping our running game and forcing Tony to throw the ball. Nothing but good things can come from that, especially when they can't stop our running game anyway. :)

The only knock I have on him is he does not wrap up when he tackles, he tries to blow people up, he has the size for it and most people go down but saw a few plays where his failure to wrap up caused some tackles short of the first actually become first downs

I thought Carter was this game. I also thought Crawford was better. McClain was good but he seemed a bit sluggish covering downfield probably because of the groin.

I would also say give him a deal now. Given the way he's playing, if you wait until the end of the season, his value will have gone way up. The guy is pretty much the heart and soul of the defense. I don't know what it is, but the defense looks completely different with him in there. Against the Rams, we were getting knocked back, but this game, guys were hitting hard and making tackles.

We are at game 4 in a 16 game schedule. No way I extend him now. That's not good relations. You must take care of others first. We don't need a deal that saves a few dollars; we need to be sure that we pay guys who deserve it and prove it. There's plenty of time with Ro.

No way would I even think about it. People are just giddy over the win. I'm not about to hand out a long term contract to a player with his track record after 3 games on the field.

Same with Murray. Fans are going to overrate him now with the way this offensive line is dominating. Pay him top dollar!

Like the OP said, signing him now at a bargain wouldn't be too bad of a decision. And I don't care if it's heavily incentive based, he needs to be playing on our defense.

Me. Bruce Carter is and always has been a Sam Linebacker. He played it on the inside in the 3-4 and should have been the Sam as soon as we changed to the 4-3.

At least on Bruce Carter. Man Rolando McClain has really shown me everything I wanted to see. When Sean Lee comes back, Lee should be the Will linebacker. He's much smaller than Ro McClain and his athleticism and speed would be excellent on the weak side in coverage.

im still waiting on murray to end up injured and our entire game plan gets flushed down the toilet and we pile up a bunch of losses.

Let the lawyers worry about wording the contract, Rolando has been playing well so obviously an extension is in play.

Carter is fascinating to me, he's really coming on. Of course, we can't have a guy shine without him getting injured so the non-contact injury didn't even surprise me.
