Fall TV hits and misses
Friday, September, 23, 2011, 6:23 PM

Fall TV's big premiere week is winding down and viewers have sampled most of the new series the networks are offering this year. So let's take a look back and see which new shows appear to be hits right out of the gate — and which shows missed the mark completely.

Hits:
"New Girl"
"2 Broke Girls"
"Up All Night"
"The Secret Circle"
"Revenge"

Mises:
"The X Factor"
"Free Agents"
"The Playboy Club"
"H8R"

X Factor drew another 4.3 rating, how was it a bust?

I think it was a bust for BDC. :) The show has to do better. If it doesn't fix some things, it won't carry 4.3 all of the time.

Simon needs to get a little tougher. His whole caring thing isn't going over very well. The softy schtick just isn't selling w/ viewers.

They should be more serious about the talent and should interact w/ the talent a bit more seriously. Make it fun but try and be more professional.

Some of these acts seem staged, no pun intended.

Did you read the article? Once again, you are WAY to hooked on ratings.

Whitney sucked. Gave up on it halfway through.

The commercials annoyed me so much I didn't want to even try watching it.

A show could show a dancing turtle for 3 hours, and if it draws a 4.9 rating it will be renewed.

It really just comes down to that. I hate all reality shows, so I don't care whats wrong with the show. 4.3, it'll probably settle in the mid 3's, House is the flagship non-reality show for FOX and it draws 2.9-3.4.

"MISS: Sure, 12 million viewers is nothing to sneeze at, but "The X Factor" creator Simon Cowell himself told The Hollywood Reporter that anything less than 20 million would be considered a disappointment. By comparison, "American Idol's" first Cowell-free season bowed in January to more than 26 million viewers, and although NBC's "The Voice" trailed slightly behind "Factor" in overall eyeballs, it performed better in the all-important 18-49 demo."

I gave up the second I heard the idiotic laugh track

It's supposedly filmed before a live audience. So either they found a brain-dead crowd that would laugh at anything, or they digitally enhanced the laughter in post-production.

I saw the Playboy Club pilot episode on Monday. It was ok, but nothing great.
