Rewatching a replay of the block. We overloaded the right side, bunching six players to the right of the long snapper vs. four blockers. The four inside defenders crashed down, forcing three of the blockers to take them. That left the other blocker to choose between Goodwin or Thomas. He should have blocked the inside path since that's the quickest to the ball, but he probably was expecting help. Odighizuwa did a good job of keeping the closest blocker engaged to keep that help from coming.

Giants needed to adjust their alignment before the snap to handle the overload. Instead, Fassel outfoxed their ST coach.

Kudos to Fassel for coming right out and being aggressive on ST....and to be honest had the Giants gone up 3-0 after marching down the field on our defense who knows if that changes the trajectory of the game or not.

That's a football 101 issues for the Giants though. No excuse to not be able to count and take the inside man.

The counter move, offense runs to the weak side of the defense?

If you want to run a fake with your kicker or holder. Mukuamu was playing on the weak side, though, and didn't rush and we had both linebackers in position for any fakes as well. The only real adjustment they could have made is to motion the outside blocker on the left side to the right side, but two of the rushers on the left side were lined up wide, so I don't know if they could have adjusted to pick up both of those players.

Fassel just schemed the rush better than they schemed the protection.

Yeah, you've at least got to make the outside rusher be the one who has to get there since he has the longer path.
