who else has a fear of flying in airplanes, or like me just isnt crazy about it? I wasnt too thrilled about flying before 9/11 and my feelings havent changed since 9/11. I dont like the claustrophobic atmosphere, from the seating to the narrow aisles to the small bathrooms. Who else shares in these feelings?

Go first class. Seriously. Better seats, service, and wider aisles. And go to the bathroom at the airport.

I fear the idiots on the road a lot more than the professionals manning the planes.

Not so much flying that creeps me out as it is being sealed inn, i can be a little claustrophobic when it comes to planes.

My only fear is sitting next to Bob on a cross-county flight.

First time I flew I think I was 21 ,mostly because I was so scared to do it. Not gonna lie first flight I was nauseated and very very tense, I was feeling sick pretty much the whole flight. By the time I was on the return flight I felt much much better, just a small amount of anxiety, since then I have been fine.

Wait until the new Boeing 878 Dreamliner comes out. Flying on that will be unbelievable. Just the pictures alone are amazing.

Here's my response when people use this as a reason to feel secure.

If you get hit in your car, unless you are on the interstate or in a high-speed zone, you'll live.

If the plane starts heading down, unless there is a miracle, you're dead.

Call me crazy but I'd rather get into a dozen fender benders than one plane crash.

I love flying. Having a window seat is always a must for me.

Or the aisle (for me at least). Sitting between two people (even skinny ones) is torture on a long flight.

I don't have any stats to back this up, but I'm guessing way way way more people have died in car accidents than have in plane crashes.

It's just when a plane crashes, a hundred or more could die at one time and we notice more.

Before I used to take off from OHare in Chicago, I would go up on top of one of the parking garages, and watch the planes land and take off.

You could see them coming and going like you were in the hub of a wheel and the planes were coming and going on the spokes of the wheel. Literally every 14 seconds or so one was taking off or landing. You could see them 4 or 5 deep on each spoke.
And I would think, this is only 1/2 hour, at one airport. This is going on almost 24 hours a day all over the world.

A pretty safe way to travel.

True, but consider there were ZERO deaths via airplanes in the USA last year.

Im skurd. Ever since I was little, I would cry whenever I saw an airplane. I hate the noise, I hate the way they look, and of course I hate that thought of going down.
Never have flown anywhere and luckily havent been put in a situation where I had to fly anywhere.

I fear who I'm going to be sitting next to more than flying itself. A large stinky person, or an extremely (and annoying) talkative person is the absolute pits.

If the plane crashes, 99% of the time; you are going to die. So, if you are going to fear flying, only fear while you can still get off. Once you can't. Nothing to fear. If it's going to happen, you can't stop it any longer, so just live let it go.

This is just like me. Never flew until my Junior year in college. And I don't fly a lot now, but when I do, I have to get a window seat. I could stare out the window of a plane the entire trip. Which is weird, because I have a pretty significant fear of heights. Or used to at least. I think when I got up there and looked out the window, I was so amazed that I got over my fear real quick.

No issues hear hell I sleep well or airplanes hell I took a great nap on a lawn Dart (Black Hawk) the thrill was over after the first 15 minutes and I was tired from three weeks in the field slept good.

Been flying for over 40 years... logged close to a million miles in my day...

Nothing to fear outside of inconsiderate fellow passengers...

Flying is safe... fellow passengers can be jerks...

I don't have 40 years, but I've got 35+. I feel the same way. Who you are sitting next to can really ruin a flight.
