What do I need to do?
Will I have to re-install all my software?
I'd really hate to have to re-install my software.

And Backup where? *sigh* I got a lot of stuff to backup.

I've got a default link. Basically, I got til July 29 to get the free upgrade. Was seeing if I needed to do anything in advance before saying, "Go"
Mine took quite awhile, you may want to wait until you turn in for the night.

I hesitated for the longest time, (even made a thread here to ask if it was worth it lol), but finally upgraded one night a couple months ago....I was, and to this point am still, very glad I did it......theres nothin special about it (Cortana I never use for instance) but the "getting used to the change" phase only lasted about 10 minutes, everything was still where I was used to it being and all that good stuff....

I had an older laptop I never use anymore that I tried it out on first, it took about 20 hours! but I just attributed that to bein such a piece of crud.....when I did my current laptop, it only took maybe 30 minutes if that....

My pc at work has had problems ever since. Nothing extreme yet, but very aggravating. Windows explorer can be very slow, especially when adding attachments, and the whole thing freezes every few days or so causing me to have to shut it down.

If it's an upgrade, you shouldn't have to do anything other than click "Upgrade". That being said if you are using any older programs they *may* have issues after the upgrade and you might have to upgrade or/reinstall those. Your documents, music, pics etc should be fine and left alone in the same place they are now.

It's always good to do a full system backup regularly, but especially before upgrading your OS. You can go and buy a USB drive, plug it in and use the Windows Backup utility to backup your system to it, or you could use an online service. There are too many to list, but here is a link to a review of the major ones.

This is kinda what I needed to know. I've always had computers with the latest OS. Never needed to upgrade, because by the time a new OS came out, it was time to upgrade the laptop anyway. I have Windows 8, so it shouldn't be *that* bad.

I'll go get a new USB drive tomorrow, back it up and then go from there. I don't have many older programs, but I'll just pray they survive the conversion.

Like I said before, I haven't had any problems. Having said that, I don't do a lot with my PC. I don't do spreadsheets, and I'm not a gamer. I only do things on the Internet.

The only problem I've had is that there was an issue involving Windows 10 and my antivirus program, which is Webroot SecureAnywhere. However, it hasn't happened lately.

Let us know how it goes!

Upgrade went fine.. Started about 5 and it finished about 30 mins ago. No issues. They removed some bloatware. Probably added some, too. But overall, no problems whatsoever.

I'm sure you saw all the apps that are on there.

Speaking for myself, there's more than I'll ever use.

Yeah, I saw them. But I can't really wrap my head around using apps on a laptop. My laptop folds to work as a touchscreen, but I'm leery about messing up my keyboard, so I never use that function. Either way, I've used my laptop all day and except for some antivirus updates, I'm good.
