So after watching the market the past 4-6 months and testing nearly 6 different phones. I finally decided on what I wanted. I picked up the new Dell Streak.

Now before you go all bonko on Dell phones, let me fill you in a bit on this little beauty.
  • 5" screen
  • Widescreen Display
  • OS - Android 1.6 but Dell will be offering the update to 2.2 Froyo sometime next month.
  • 5MP Camera Front/Rear w/ LED Flash
  • Storage 2gig onboard for Appz and 16 MicroSD card pre-installed (I got a 32)
  • 1ghz Snapdragon CPU
  • WLAN 802.11b/g, Bluetooth®2.0 with EDR, USB 2.0
  • 7.7 oz
I have been surfing the web and app store all day and the battery is hardly touched. This all the time listening to music off of it. It can multitask very well.

I have been an iPhone user since the early 2G. My only issue w/ the iPhone platform is how the App Store is handled and the no flash support as well as the screen was just to small for me. I do a ton of things on my mobile and I always..ALWAYS wanted a bigger screen for real-estate. Well I finally got that in the Dell Streak.

It's not for everyone. This is basically a 6 x 3.1 x 0.4 in device w/ a 5" beautiful screen. It's probably to large for some. It's the size of a dollar bill and nearly 1/2 inch thick. Dell did an amazing job building the phone.

It's just my 1st day having the phone, but I have to say it's been everything and a lot more than what I expected.

I also want to add that the phone part of this tiny tablet is fantastic. My call quality is crystal clear and has been all day. My GF also tells me she hears me a LOT better now.

So there ya go..I just wanted to share.

:D

How's it feel to hold and talk on? I'd think it might be a bit bulky for that.

I thought the same thing when I was researching it. I have a nice blue-tooth headset I use w/ it so I dont actually have it up to my head while talking. I did use it like that on a call earlier. It sounds great and isn't uncomfortable or warm or bulky but it is a bigger phone.

It's also much thinner than my iPhone.

Funny how the trend for so long was relentless downsizing of phone sizes. Now with video and games and apps, the need for big screens is sending sizes back up.

To be honest, until earlier today, I didn't even know Dell made cell phones. That phone does look pretty cool though. A little too big for me but I think the Droid X is fairly similar in size and I wouldn't mind that if I got used to it.

That looks like my new baby when I reach the need for a new one. I don't mind bulk at all with a bigger screen. Bigger with smart phones is better in my mind, especially with my eyesight not improving with age.

Thats very cool. I've been kind of excited about the Streak, but weary of it also. I didn't like the fact that it came with Android 1.6. You will be far more happy once you get Android 2.2 I'm sure. Surfing the web shoud be really good with that giant screen!

If the quality and the CPU/memory is there, you would really enjoy the phone providing the size doesn't become an issue.

Congratz on getting a Streak!

I'd love one of these as a secondary phone or something, but can't imagine having to carry it around day to day.

I'd like to try one of these out. I did play with a five inch Archos Android tablet at Best Buy awhile back and I don't think I'd want a phone that big. It pretty much tries to make you do everything in landscape right? I have an EVO and think bigger is better, but don't think I'd want anything better than an EVO because it's big but still small enough to operate one handed when I want. Don't know that the Streak is small enough.

Depending on how it is held it rotates the view.

I just have a Blackberry so the screen is not great. They just went hands free in cars up here but those Blue tooth things are too freaky so I just put the phone on speaker phone and cop has no idea I am talking on the phone.
