Finding a Slot Stud

Looking back on Dak's career with the Cowboys I think you could make the argument one of his favorite targets he's had was Cole Beasley his rookie year. That year he had a go to #1 in Dez, an older but still good Witten and a slot stud in Beas. (TWil was our #2 - who was mediocre at best).

I know we've beaten the table about getting a quality #2, and I still think we should, but getting a slot stud who could move the chains would be great as well. It would make doubling Lamb and bracketing Schultz / TE in zone leave the door open for the #2 or slot player. Excluding some of the 1st round options that can play inside / out, some great options this year in the draft IMO:

- Josh Downs
- Tyler Scott
- Tank Dell
- Marvin Mims
- Tre Tucker
- Jayden Reed
- Parker Washington

What say you?

We have 1, his name is Ceedee Lamb. Obviously Lamb lines up outside as well, but he does a good amount of his damage from the slot. Drafting a small, slot only WR makes it tougher to run different alignments with our WR’s and fully utilize Lamb. I know beggars can’t be choosers, but I’d prefer a guy that can do both

I doubt they spend a ton of time looking for someone who can man the slot simply because Lamb plays inside most often in 3 receiver sets. I'd have to go back and look up the snap counts but i bet Lamb had more snaps in the slot than he did out wide last season.

I’m seeing conflicting #’s on different sites, but it was somewhere between 45-58% of the time in the slot. He also lead the nfl in slot receiving yards with 867 of his total 1359 yards coming from the slot.

I like a few of those guys. You know that I’m a fan of Tyler Scott and that I’d love to find a way to have him on the team. He very much reminds me of Tyler Lockett both in play style and in personality/demeanor.

But I also like Downs and Washington a lot. Downs I think would have to be taken in the first because I don’t think he makes it to Dallas’ second round pick.

Scott might make it to the late second and I think Washington will be later.

What I’d like is to use pick 26 on another position (CB, OG, TE) and then manage to get Scott with the second choice. That would be my ideal situation.

Yea, Lamb does operate out of the slot around 40 / 50% of the time but if we're talking about a mid rounder that can add to that I don't think the draft capital is too high.

There will also be some 4 WR sets at times where we have 2 slot guys.

Finally got to watch a longer cutup of Scott and yea...he is awesome.

The best part of someone like Flowers, Scott or Mims is they give you inside / outside versatility. I'm really warming up to Mims and his big play ability he just isn't very polished as a route runner. But to add one of these guys that are legit 4.4 burners that alone would help a TON.

Yeah, I left Mims out but I do like him.

I think he could do both. You could flip him and Lamb back and forth in an attempt to create match up problems with opposing defenses
Probably so…just let him run slant fades from the slot early in would be enough to back up the safeties and create more space.

Mims has been one of the more underrated guys in the class.
His YPA is laughable.

He also plays way bigger than his size which I like to go along with his speed.

Just a little raw as a route runner.

I say that if we sign OBJ he and CD can alternate in the slot

Also increase role of TE

I’m still looking for a WR in the draft even if we sign a FA or make a trade. MG can walk next year and no reason to extend guys like Brown.

I'm a Parker Washington fan. He didn't run at the combine due to injury, but I think he would have tested well. He's built like and runs like a RB with big thick legs and he's a SPARQie guy who scored a 125.7 SPARQ rating. Really good hands and I think he's got some untapped potential.

I'm all for drafting a big receiver like Mingo and have Lamb continue to see action in the slot. Not against the latter either, but think Lamb is best used inside.

Mims is a stud. Would need to take him with our 2nd (if he lasts that long)
