Firefighters Are A Unique Breed

Holy crap!

Amazed at the car fire one but totally blow away by the ladder deal.

I bet that explosion hurt. Especially the pressure on his ears.

Perhaps, although I doubt it hurt much. Bunker gear provides a great deal of protection...more than one would think. The nomex hoods and the neck protection would help buffer that explosion nicely.

Hos...have you seen firefighter competitions with the pompier ladder? Some of those guys are crazy fast. I've seen some pretty amazing competitions where a engine unit will do a forward lay in like 20 seconds.

Here's a pompier ladder demo...I've seen better, but it's the only one I could find quickly.

Yeah, I have. I used to compete in firefighter games when I was doing that. Our games were a lot different though.

We had one where we had 2 lengths of hose, 3 spanner wrenches, and a hydrant wrench and nozzle in a circle.

A team of 3 starts at one end and runs to the equipment in the circle. 1 guy grabs the nozzle, a wrench, and one end of the hose. One guy connects the hoses together with the spanner. The third guy runs his end and the 2 wrenches to a hydrant and turns on the water. The nozzle man has to knock down 4 targets for the team to win.

My specialty though was fireman water polo. They set us up on a basketball court. They run 9 gauge wire between the 2 hoops. At half court they hook a tetherball on the wire and hold it in the center with a pipe pole.

One fire hose faces one way and one the other. Charge the lines. They cross streams above the tetherball and then on signal the ball is released and the two teams of 3 firefighters try to push the ball to the opposing hoop.

Our department never took less than 2nd place in those contests. I loved being the nozzleman one those.

I always wanted to date a firefighter. The uniform thing was cool, but it was the fact they'd be gone for four days a week that I appreciated. lol

That's funny...that's the same reason I became a firefighter. :D

Ha! Great minds... In this case, distance does make the heart grow fonder.

You could never accuse me of being the clingy sort. :D

Me looking at my watch: "Isn't it time for you to go? What time's your shift, again?" lol

Dude, you don't want me to say what rolled through my mind when you said that.
