First look at Senior Bowl Practice

I think he is just a workman type running back where his style, measurements or speed might not impress,,,but he produces and did so in a pretty tough college conference.

I don't think he is all world or anything, but at the same time I will not slight the guy because he produced against good competition.

Whoooaa I thought you were talking about Emmitt when he left College for some reason. ;)

I think I describe him accurately and although that description would also fit for Emmitt when he was coming out.

It in no way, shape or form means he could be the next emmitt smith of the NFL.

He had one great season ('09) and two relatively average/good seasons ('08 & '10) where he didn't even break 900 yards.

We aren't talking Bo Jackson, Ricky Williams, or Herschel Walker production.

And I say none of this as a slight to Ingram, I'm just more curious as to what is the infatuation with this kid is.

I wonder if he wore the #39 instead of #22 if there would be all this hubaballoo about him.

You DO realize that, if Jones would've had the average number of rushing attempts per game OVER 16 GAMES that he had over the last 8 games (14), he would have been at least in the 225-230 carry range. From what I saw of Felix over the last 8 games, I think that he showed he CAN be a guy to get 14-16 carries a game and catch 3-5 passes a game. Give him that amount of carries each year AND a better run-blocking O-line (can't figure out for the life of me why our fat guys can't run-block as well as they pass-block) and he'll easily have over 1000 yards and a LOT more than 1 measily TD.

Will he ever be a 250+ carry back? Who knows. But, I can definitely see him in that 215-230 (13-14 carries per game) range.

Agreed.

I was actually very pleased with what I saw out of Felix this season.

* He showed he can make the tough runs inside
* He's shown to be a very effective weapon in the passing game
* He improved on his blitz-pickup

The fact that he averaged 4.3 YPR is nothing short of amazing considering how poor the offensive line blocked.

Amen.

Emmitt Smith:

Frs: 229 attempts, 1,341 yards, 13 TDs
SO: 187 attempts, 988 yards, 9 TDs
Jr: 284 attempts, 1,599, yards, 14 TDs

career: 700 attempts, 3,928 yards, 36 TDs

Mark Ingram:

Frs: 143 attempts, 758 yards, 12 TDs
SO: 271 attempts, 1,658 yards, 17 TDs
Jr: 158 attempts, 875 yards, 13 TDs

career: 572 attempts, 3,261 yards, 42 TDs

A couple of things that stands out from those stats:

1) Emmitt didn't share the ball with anybody when he was healthy at Florida, unlike Ingram.

2) Despite the 130 more attempts, Emmitt has just 670 yards more than Ingram and 6 less TDs.

3) Unlike Ingram at Alabama, Galen Hall built Florida's offense around Emmitt Smith.

Once again, and I'm with Paint on this one, I'm not saying Ingram will be the next Emmitt and win rushing titles.. I don't know.. but to dismiss the similarities between both players by saying that one was more productive ..etc..etc. is not wise.

People just like the way he plays. He's productive. He runs hard. He breaks tackles and runs away from people. I bet his numbers at the combine are going to be a lot better than people are expecting.

And Ingram is the style of back that just doesn't fizzle out in a few years either.

He'll be a good one. Just won't be for us even though it would be awesome see'ing an Emmitt clone in our backfield.

I would contend drawing a loose comparison of two players that come within 700 yards and 150 rushing attempts of eachother is really grasping at straws.

I think if you really researched it, you could find a running back somewhere in the past 15 years that has numbers closer to Emmitt's.

"I'm not saying Ingram will be the next Emmitt and win rushing titles..."

Wasn't the premise of your thread that we could potentially have the next "Emmitt and Moose" in Ingram and Marecic? If you're saying someone is the next Emmitt, doesn't that include by default that he'll likely contend for rushing titles?

Anyways, if that's what you see, that's what you see. Me personally, I see Rueben Droughns more than I see Emmitt Smith in Ingram.

We'll just have to revisit this one in a couple years.
