On August 14th I'll be going to my first NASCAR race in Watkins Glen, NY.
First time. Very excited but I hear that it is going to be really loud.

So, do you have any tips?

Thanks!

Loud is all relative. Obviously the closer you are the louder it will be. I've been as close as the 10th row at Texas Motor Speedway and really didn't think it was that loud. I took ear plugs just in case but didn't wear them.

Watkins Glen is a road course so wouldn't think that would be overly loud. Take ear plugs just in case.

As for other tips, take sunscreen, hat, radio, check to see the cooler/drink policy, sunglasses, lots of cash, just the usual stuff.

Here's their site: http://www.theglen.com/?homepage=true

Since it's the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips At The Glen race I'll say have a helluva good time! Oh, only 141 days to go.

Watkins Glenn huh?

Been there a many times. Used to be in my back yard. Not bringing a female companion are ya? That place is like the Woodstock of NASCAR. It's more about the scenery and atmosphere then watching a race. It's a hard track to view a race in person.

Definitely take ear plugs. Sun tan/block lotion if daytime, with hat. Half the fun at these things is the tailgating, and we always love to do that both before and after the race (after = avoid the massive traffic getting out). It's pretty easy to hide a flask with your favorite liquid refreshment (if you like the hard stuff), and sneak it in. Check the track website for allowable cooler dimensions.

Get ear plugs they will sale them there at the event. It does not bother me and NASCAR is not loud compared to drag racing. now that is loud

Hopefully you'll be sitting close to a tv monitor because you won't see action the whole time.

Depends on how close you are -- I went to the Vegas race a couple of years ago and was in the infield and was right up against the fence and though you couldn't have a conversation with anyone -- it wasn't any louder then any rock show I have been too.

Seeing a race LIVE I think at any track is difficult to see. We timed it so I could get some photos of Dale Jr.'s car and they came around every 29 seconds. That's all I could see where I was at. It is best to be by a monitor or get high enough so you can see the entire track. I didn't have a bad time even though I only saw the cars every 29 seconds -- it's a cool experience. We only encountered one butthead the entire time -- everyone else was real nice.

Like everyone else said -- bring a lot of money (parking, headsets, food, etc.), sunscreen, a hat, etc.

You actually met Jr? :laugh2: :p:

I always take a small radio reciever and earphones, so you can keep track of what's going on. The earphones work as earplugs too.
Just a couple of weeks till they race at night here in Texas!! :D

I hadn't realized they made it a night race.

I heard Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch are very popular and well liked among NASCAR events.
