I bought my PS3 when the VERY first model came out and haven't had a problem with it until 2 days ago.

While playing, all of a sudden the game froze, and the PS3 turned off and does a "beep beep beep" and turns off. I try turning it on again, it does and continue playing the game. It worked for that session and I took the disc out after I concluded. The next time I play, I press the power button, starts up, immediately does a "beep beep beep" and couldn't get it started up again.

I call Sony, they want $200 to repair it or $180 for a refurbished slim one.

I decided to check good old YouTube out and find this video;

I buy the thermal compound and heat gun, low and behold, old reliable is good as new!! Thank the Lord for YouTube!!! :D

Moral of the story, if you get this problem with a PS3, use this video!!

i should show my husband this video. our PS3 is still working great, but the video might be helpful if it does go dead at some point.

Knock on wood, but I bought my PS3 about 10 years ago and thing still works like new.

300 dollars, one of the best investments ever

Well, the PS3 was released in 2006, but I do know what you mean. :D

And I agree, a very good investment!

I have a buddy waiting on the heat gun. He has the same problem you had.

Obviously, all electronics can overheat at some point. It's the fact that Xbox's overheat every 2 years and PS3's last 6+. :p:

I've had my xbox 360 for 3 or 4 years with no overheating issues.

Depending on the amount you play can obviously put a +/- on that time frame. I am 24 years old, got my PS3 when I was 18, so you can imagine the heavy amount of use I have put on it during those days.

The newer models are less likely to have problems since the upgrade to cooler chips and sometimes better fans. Both 360 & ps3.

I bought my PS3 for $500 when they first came out and the whole reason was it's backwards compatibility to play my PS2 games. Granted I don't play PS2 games to much anymore, but if for some reason I want to I still can!
