The government passed the bill to let Florida go year round with more daylight. The governor has to sign it and the US Congress has to approve it but those are considered to be done deals.

I am all for it but I do wonder how it all will play out. From March until November we wont notice any difference but when the time changes for the rest of the East coast in November that is where it gets interesting. Will Florida have its own TV schedule. Sporting events will be really interesting. Sunday night football will begin at 9:30 instead of 8:30. Shows now at 10 will be watched at 11. Probably will take some getting use to.

I like the longer daylight hours. I seem to get more work done the later the sun is up so that works. It will be wierd tho. I guess we will have our own time zone from Nov to March. ET, CT, MT, PT, FT for Florida Time

I hate DST with a passion. I wouldn't like the later game times for night games though. Still, you don't have to throw your body into shock when they say Spring Forward. To me, it's Drag Your Butt Out Of Bed An Hour Earlier For No Good Reason. Congratulations Florida!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So are you for or against more daylight in the evenings?
I am for just setting it and forgetting it. The purpose has actually reversed, it is not saving energy of benefiting farmers.

That additional daylight comes at the expense of it in the winter months increasing depression, particularly in the North part of the country.

When I lived in Boise, you could read a book outside at 10pm. The timeline bends around that area and getting used to that with additional sunlight was not easy. But the golfers loved it. We lived on the first fairway and they'd be teeing off at 6pm and getting in a full 18.

I'm surprised one state in the heavily populated eastern time zone would be allowed to do that.

I'm all for it nationwide though.

I think this is step one because it is going to present some challenges and other Eastern states, beginning with NY, may follow suit because of the NY-FL connection. If you've ever had to make calls to AZ or IN, your first question was always "what time is it there"?

And think of those poor people on the border of AL and GA at last call. They'll have to stay sober enough to figure out if that still have an hour's worth of drinkin' cross the state line. And the Flora-Bama patrons are going to be more confused than ever, if that is possible.

With the lifestyles that a lot of Amercians have in major cities regarding their commutes, I would imagine that additional hour of light is something they look forward to every March.

Arizona is this way too. They don't practice daylight savings. I am all for nixing it. Spring forward sucks on your sleep for a little bit, but man, do I love me some longer days!

The government has considered changing DST a number of times as they've seen the research that it is no longer beneficial.

I saw some research conducted back in the early 2000's that showed people in the ETZ were more productive during the last 2 hours of work when they had the additional hours of daylight than during the fall and winter without it. Some of the research surmised that it was the old "the busier I am, the time flies faster" feeling which I have found to be true.

The question is would you be willing to give up light from 8-9 in order to keep it from 5-6? I would. That way we wouldn't have to wait an additional hour for fireworks on the 4th.

You are confused about this. Florida actually wants to practice daylight savings all year long and permanently move the clock forward for an hour. Arizona doesnt practice daylight savings at all. Florida wants to always have more light in the evenings. Arizona never has more light in the evenings.
