FO did an analysis of each D versus a particular route in the route tree. To the surprise of no one, the Cowboys were mediocre to crappy in just about every category. People focus on Dak as to how successful the season is but if this team can't defend the pass better, it likely won't matter what Dak does if this team has aspirations beyond winning a crappy division.

I don’t think Anthony Brown or Jourdan Lewis could cover and Out or post route, if you told them the route and the defender fell down.

Cowboys can't go back and change the outcome of last season, what they can do is perform better this season. Cowboys have made changes in personnel and with DC. Learn from mistakes last year and put it behind them because right now all that matters is now.

Yeah, I love Parsons and am glad we took him but there's a reason they were looking at those top two corners. Unfortunately Bossman isn't looking like a hit yet, and Brown and Lewis just aren't that good... And over the years I've liked Brown more than most.

But we knew this defense was a multi year rebuild anyway with as little talent as they had.

Unless Odighizuwa drastically improves the interior rush, I don't see a huge improvement coming in these numbers. The Cowboys are overly dependent on the outside rush, and don't disrupt the interior enough. When a QB can step up in the pocket with no fear, it's duck hunt downfield.

Improve the DL talent. Primarily at DT and the overall defense will improve. Not just the run defense, but the pass defense as well.

Let's see:

28th against WR screens
32nd against Curls/24th against Outs
28th against Go routes

Regardless of the depth of the route, we were, uh, not stellar. But, hey, there's something to be said for consistency, right?

On an unrelated note, the sentence "L.A. allowed just one completion on a go/fly route all season, a 42-yard gain by Allen Robinson of the Bears in Week 7" is technically correct, but only because of a Premiere League-level acting job by Jalen Ramsey on the deep completion to Gallup on the Cowboys' last drive. And yes, I am still bitter, why do you ask?

and it starts at the DL...if you can't put pressure, even deion sanders would give up plays.....the key is the DL and the biggest key is DTs putting pressure up the middle and flush the QB out of the pocket not allowing him to step into the pocket...do that and your pass defense improves leaps and bounds

Somewhat true but this secondary has lacked talent for years too and that plays into it. Hopefully that changes with Diggs getting better and having some better options at S with Kazee and Hooker.

hopefully. everyone is really high on diggs, but he gave up a lot of plays, specially deep balls.....we played lesser opponents and back up QBs later in the year and he seemed to be better. I am just not sure if he is...we have to see it on the field.

Not news that our defense was often horrible last year. Given that everyone looked bad, I'm inclined to put it on the *fired* DC.
