For the dog lovers

This is a great story and it's always great to hear stories of rescue. I saw it on the news, but that is a lot more footage than they played during the story.

Why don't they mention who does the experimenting? I would sure like to know!

Family pet growing up was a Beagle. Great story.

I hate Beagles. ;)

Umm, well I don't hate them. Just don't like them. I wouldn't want them hurt or injured of course. I just wouldn't want one.

:)

Glad they got a second chance, watching them step on grass for the first time was tough. I wonder what type of testing was done on them.

I can't remember, but I know some of them are permanently injured from the testing. At least I remember them saying that in the story they had on TV about them.

Thanks! I'll be perusing the list of US companies that allow animal experimenting. I see P&G is one of them....Time to dump the stock!

You might find this of interest, if you are concerned about animal testing. This organization seeks to promote alternate methods to animal testing and often will send out email regarding companies or groups that do such testing.

When I was a kid in El Paso (we're talking the mid 60s), my Dad bred beagles... great dogs, funny, friendly and energetic... only bad thing about them was their bark, how such a small animal could make so much noise I'll never know...

Heres something i have on my desktop............
A pets Ten Commandments.
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainments, but I have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don’t understand your words, I do understand your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can’t bear to watch. Don’t make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

#10 for sure. It's the most difficult thing but you really have to be there unless you are out of town or incapacitated.

Haha, yeah no kidding. Hounds have some pipes on them, people think of Beagles as these cute dogs from the movies but they are bred to do real work outdoors like most hounds, they aren't really lap dogs.

One of the hardest things I ever did was put down my first dog Thunder after 16 years, but I'm glad I did the right thing... he was relaxed and at ease right up to the time his lights went out...

Then I cried... then the next day, I went down to the pound and got Bear...

My Dad used his to hunt rabbits... one of them, Prince Barbarossa, was an AKC field champion... that dog's chest was so deep it barely cleared the ground, and my Dad swore that he could run forever...

Dad loved to tell a story about Prince; he was a really good shot, but on this day Prince jumped a big ol' jackrabbit, and ran him around Dad, who fired, but missed... no problem, Prince chased him around in a big circle, and when he brought the rabbit back around, Dad fired again, and missed again... so off goes Prince for a third lap, he got Dad a third shot (he'd had time to reload his double-barrel Parker), and Dad missed again...

At that point, he claims that Prince sat down and looked at him with a look that seemed to say "are we here to hunt, or just screw around??"
