I'm fairly handy, but my tool collection is limited.

I'm looking to get a miter saw, but I'm kind of bamboozled on the number of options.

  • What size is a good size? I'm guessing in the near term a 2 x 6 or 4 x 4 is the biggest size wood I'd be cutting.
  • Compound? Sliding? Compound Sliding?
  • Brand? I've had good luck with DeWalt and Makita in the past, any other brands I should be on the lookout for?

I have a DeWalt DW713 10" that I paid $199 for at Lowes and like it a lot.

What you should get depends on you and what you are going to do with it. I just do stuff around the house. A large expensive miter isn't what I needed.
