Cowboys draft scenarios: 3 options for how the first 3 rounds could go

Updated Apr. 10, 2023 3:26 p.m. ET
Scenario 1: Speed, Speed, Speed
Round 1, Pick 26: Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College

Round 2, Pick 58:
Tyrique Stevenson, CB, Miami

Round 3, Pick 90:
Chandler Zavala, OG, North Carolina State

I'm pretty confident the Cowboys will have a choice between a top receiver and a top tight end at the back end of the first round. Here, I went for home-run ability by opting for Flowers over Notre Dame's Michael Mayer. Flowers is on the small side, but he can play all over and he's got juice. I was incredibly intrigued when I saw his name on the Cowboys' list of visitors. Along with Brandin Cooks, he'd add another big play threat to the offense.

Replace Avila with Wright (or get Avila with a slight trade down) and I like the third scenario best.

  • #26: Mayer the top rated player of the 3 options.

Wright is projected to go before #26.
Probably so, but he seems to be in that range where he could slip to our pick. I've seen him 19 to 24. Much better than reaching for Torrence and Avila, neither of whom I've seen rated in the top 30. It's likely that we'll have to choose from another position because the value doesn't add up.

This guy totally stole from my post :) Hmmm 3 scenarios for mock draft- mine were Friday 4/7 he had the decency to change some players and reasoning. Flowers - juice the offense and talks about him having the juice. Give a citation of inspiration at least

Looks good to me.

I keep hearing that Flowers is the number 1 receiver on lots of teams board. I just can’t imagine him getting through the Ravens, Chargers, and Giants log jam in the 20s. Kincaid might get through.

Yep, this is the problem (especially for us amateurs trying to work how it will play). Virtually each WR has different pro/cons which could result on all being taken as teams have different favorites, or none go as teams are fearful of the cons (when picking in the 1st Rd).

Exactly. I think Forbes is the best cornerback but he weighs 160lbs. Some team will take a chance but when. In December I heard this was weak draft on depth and top end talent. Basically a bunch of second and third round picks. I don’t think it’s changed. Players will have their warts. I just think Forbes gives us the best secondary in football.

I love Him but this is frightening . . . I would need a guarantee that He could add at least 12 lbs

If you put Him on the slot teams will target Him on the run Game . . . and if you put Him outside stronger Wrs will bully Him

Yeah I see the concerns. That is why he will be in the 20s. Perfect matchup for Davonte Smith.
