In professional sports, a franchise player is an athlete who is both the best player on their team and one that the team can build their "franchise" around for the foreseeable future.
Key words in the definition of (Wikipedia) a player a franchise can build around for the foreseeable future..
I got nothing against Zeke or care how he conducts his off field affairs but they have become a liability.
Wentz had to take a team friendly deal because of injuries. He understood his liability could affects the Eagles forseeable future on the field but his liabilities won't tarnish the franchise off the field. Injuries are understood to part of the game.
Zeke's liabilities are a Full Monty... Off field issues have never been given the "injury pass". Another incident by Zeke leaves the franchise handicapped for the foreseeable future.
I loved the pick. The reasoning (for Romo) was sound and Draft staff have been stellar.
But, Zeke has not lived up to Franchise Player status. Franchise players have both on the field and off field leadership expectations.
Cowboys have all the leverage. We have many young good players. We are not at the mercy of a singular very good player like some other franchises forced to pay.
Best case scenario Zeke takes the deal in which the Cowboys have protected the Franchise or let it play out...Zeke hasn't earned the title..
