So apparently free agency is the same as the draft- let’s go mods!

Right now the team is weak at DT and this is a repeating perhaps team building flaw. It shows up in past playoffs and could also this year.

DT DaRon Payne - free agent next year 2023 from the Washington NFL team is an ideal fix and I’m all in. What you don’t draft you you have to pay for.

Im all in on Payne. A guy to watch in the draft if you want a similar player is Keanu Benton. Incredibly strong

While I’m 100% on board with signing the guy I have absolutely no idea why Washington would let him make to to the open market.

Unless they are in a crazy cap crunch why would they not franchise him?

That guy is a player. Keeanu Benton DT Wisconsin 6'4 315 as you said incredibly strong but also has 34' arms. I would take in him in the second. Do both Payne and draft this guy and this is a Superbowl defense for the next 5 years.

I really don't care for Payne, and I REALLY don't care for the price tag he is going to command this offseason.

His 11 sacks this year are fluky. His pressure numbers indicate that he's more of a 5-6 sack player, and sacks are a volatile stat prone to mean regression. Here he was on Dec 20th with 9 sacks, and that was above trend even then.

He's never been dominant against the run either. He's sporting a below-average PFF grade right now, and has basically hovered around average for his whole career.

Some team is going to look at 25 years old + 1st round pedigree + 11 sacks, and sign him for a truckload of money. But they're going to drop $20M stud money on a pretty good DT who's worth more like $12M.

Because they gave DT Jonathan Allen an 18M per contract and drafted a DT in the 2nd in 2022 (The 3rd DT drafted in the 2022 draft).

Payne is a 1tech DT that plays all 3 downs.

Stats are not a good way to evaluate DTs, especially not 1tech types.

PFF comparing his pass rushing vs all DTs would be like comparing Witten's blocking to all blocking TEs (i.e. Witten's blocking was great relative to elite receiving TEs but just average if compared to blocking TEs that are often like lightweight OLinemen).

Many 1tech DTs are not 3 down players. Being a 3 down player is what makes Payne valuable. Even if he does not always play 3 downs, it means you have a run downs DT that has 3 down ability.

Payne, Hargrove, Tomlinson are guys that could certainly help this team. All Free Agents. The profile of player we typically look for on the DL has to change as it relates to players we draft.

I seem to recall a lot of doubters on here when Max Crosby was being considered.

Scratch Payne and Hargrave. Both will be top tier free agents and that mean Jerry will not get in on the bidding. Tomlinson will be less, not probably not the $6 million level that Jerry uses as his cutoff. I would love to see the Cowboys get in on the bidding for Tomlinson, and keep Hankins too. Maybe Bohanna has an epiphany next year and becomes the guy we wanted when we drafted him.

Payne is younger and on a different level than these guys. All-Pro, yes you are going to pay.
