Lots of F2P (free2Play) games available. I really enjoyed Runes of Magic. It's really the only F2P (has an item mall) game I actually enjoyed. 
It depends on what style of game you enjoy.
I am a rabid mmorpg fan and that's what Runes of Magic is. Graphics are pretty good and there is tons to do.
BTW: Don't play on an PvP servers. My main was on a pvp server and there just really wasn't that much activity, only ganking.
Also you might want to look into DDO (Dungeon&Dragons Online), though the graphics really are outdated and turned me off.
LOTRO is another pretty good f2p w/ item mall.
Hope those suggestions help. Sucks being cooped up and off your feet for days.

League of legends.
Feed to play, but a completely legitimate game, not flash or browser based.
Huge learning curve, super addicting. You WILL be horrible at this game in the beginning but its awesome once you get it down.

It is a free strategy/simulation football game. Free to play. Like most of these games, you can pay money to develop your team faster, or you can play free and develop slowly. A full game takes about 10-12 minutes to play, and every time you play you earn points to use towards building your team's capabilities (through training). Good time waster.
