The Cowboys recently hired former Cleveland Browns Jerome Henderson as its new secondary coach to reunite with former Browns Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan. Don't be surprised if the Cowboys look to add Browns free agent FS, Mike Adams in free agency this offseason.

There are more popular, well known names available at the position such as LaRon Landry and Michael Griffin, but Adams outplayed them all in pass coverage according to a chart posted at bloggingtheboys.com. Adams had the best Burn Rate and Defensive Passer Rating of all available free agent safeties, and ranked #5 in the NFL among all safeties.

At 30 years old an a former undrafted free agent, he should come fairly cheep. Elam might be an option as well if the team decides to bring him back. I would still like the Cowboys to add someone else to compete or possibly draft a safety in April, but don't be surprised to see Adams a Cowboy next season.

Wait. Did we just not go through signing older cheap ex-Browns last year? How about thinking outside the box, that would be nice.

We need to keep the trend of bringing in players that are accustomed to staying home for the playoffs.......

thank you. please stop taking guys who are older and can come in here because they've worked with our coaches. that does not matter. it's about talent not about how well you know a person

not sure of the rating system, but if he was #5 of all safties, i'd have to say talent is there.

Familiarity is important. And you do need that to change culture and install a new system.

But this is year two, I would hope Ryan's system is engrained enough that it can be brought along with a full offseason program. Bringing in a 30 year old average safety is not what we need to do.

Save this glowing endorsement for when we make the mistake of signing him.

I would love to finally sign a top notch, young FS. I also have Michael Griffin on the radar, but keep in mind, this is the Cowboys we are talking about here, and the trend for the pass umpteen years has been cheap, serviceable veterans (or in the case of Ball and AOA, projects) to fill in. Maybe this is the year that all changes, but due to the familiarity with the coaches and him being a FA, I'm just saying don't be surprised if he is the guy here next year.

It'll be Elam or Adams for now. Simply too many other positions on the D to fill. It'll be too tempting for RR to turn down not one but two of his former players, both of whom are likely among the cheapest of options out there. Have we seen any evidence that Ryan and/or JG or JJ are displeased with Elam btw?

Go with Elam or Adams and you still need a CB at least better than Scandrick, one ILB to challenge Carter, one very hard to find effective pass rushing OLB, one huge NT to at least spell Ratliff and one 3-4 DE better than Coleman and preferably better than Hatcher. And that's just the D.

You are preaching to the choir. A signing like Griffin would be stunning.

I think we will likely see Sensy at FS and Church at SS with Elam being signed to another one year deal as insuarnce.

Maybe he'll get a pick next year.

30 years old? we cant find an NFL safety younger than that?

:laugh2: Seriously, lets just draft a guy if we cant bring in Griffin

While I definately wouldn't mind, at all, upgrading at the safety position I'd say that the defense has more pressing needs at corner and pass rush then they do at safety. I'm ok with going cheaper there to improve the other areas more significantly.

At age 30, he represents a fresh band-aid. We will be is the same situation all over again. I would be careful signing any kind of a DB to a contract at age 30, just never seems to work out,

Also noted that he was ranked like #74 as a tackler. That is still a big part of the job as a safety.

I like Tyvon Branch...if we go cheap Jordan Babineaux.

I wouldn't mind Branch either. He is only 25, and is a durable, solid tackler. The only thing I don't like about him is that he doesn't generate many interceptions. But neither did Elam. I just checked his combine numbers...the kid ran a 4.26 40
