From Jerry's 70% comment (and a post on another thread), my take on the current Roster. You may or may not agree. (For the My Take column, K=keeper, D=would like to see them have time for development, ?=could go, G=all but gone)

Offense Future My Take Exp Comment
9 Romo, Tony QB K 4 Our future!
14 Johnson, Brad QB K 16 Backup. Can't ask or expect much more.
21 Jones, Julius RB K 3 Seems to sparkle skills. 1000 yd rusher.
24 Barber, Marion RB K 2 Good year. Not sure he can carry the load of #1.
28 Thompson, Tyson RB K 2 Excellent straight ahead rusher and returner.
39 Polite, Lousaka FB ? 2 Steady FB. Periphery of BP's 53. Area for improvement.
46 Hoyte, Oliver LB D R Steady ILB, FB.
82 Witten, Jason TE K 4 Continuing the Cowboy's tradition of excellent TEs.
88 Fasano, Anthony TE K R Thought he would have had bigger impact.
88 Pierce, Brett TE D 3 Good back-up and ST player.
83 Glenn, Terry WR K 11 Breakaway WR. Big numbers.
84 Crayton, Patrick WR K 3 Good 3rd WR.
81 Owens, Terrell WR K 11 Mighty mouth, mighty TDs, stone hands. Here in 07.
17 Hurd, Sam WR D R A future #1 WR!
80 Austin, Miles WR D R Was fine as a returner. Has upside. 'Future #1'!
65 Gurode, Andre C K 5 Best year so far in 06. Re-signing was high priority.
63 Kosier, Kyle G K 5 Played well.
62 Rivera, Marco G G 11 Probably retired.
0 Davis, Leonard OT K 6 Expected to be the G we lost when LA. (Within reason on RHS)!
67 Berger, Joe G ? 2 Recent signing. No comment.
71 Procter, Cory G ? 2 Versatile, untested back-up.
76 Adams, Flozell OT K 9 Steady year. Keeper.
75 Colombo, Marc OT K 5 Solidified RHS of line. Steady.
77 McQuistan, Pat OT D R A BP favourite. So was Rob Petitti!

Defense
95 Ferguson, Jason DT K 10 Mainstay of DL. Nobody on roster to replace him.
60 Stanley, Montavious DT ? R On and off the squad.
90 Ratliff, Jeremiah DE K 2 Young DE / DT. Average with potential.
99 Canty, Chris DE K 2 Criticized by BP but will return without question.
96 Spears, Marcus DE K 2 Massive upside. Disappointed so far.
97 Hatcher, Jason DE K R Returning as DE with big up-side.
74 Bowen, Stephen DE ? R Signed as undrafted rookie. Was reasonabky highly rated by Ourlads.
94 Ware, DeMarcus LB K 2 One of few rushers who can reach the QB. Hopefully here for years.
98 Ellis, Greg LB K 9 High character rushing OLB/DE. Hopefully coming off re-hab.
57 Burnett, Kevin LB K 2 Still think he is capable of big things. Hasn't consistently displayed this. Injured rookie season.
53 Glymph, Junior LB ? 3 Showed potential. Been released and re-signed.
51 Singleton, Al LB G 10 Unspectacular but stable pro. Likely gone.
50 Ayodele, Akin LB K 5 Played well. Better season of the 2 ILBs starting.
56 James, Bradie LB K 4 Fell away after excellent 05. Big contract. OK.
54 Carpenter, Bobby LB K R Showed improvement. Expect big things.
31 Williams, Roy S K 5 Super hero who has been torched (by the media & deep plays)!
29 Davis, Keith S ? 4 Killer! Special teams ace. Not a FS!
0 Hamlin, Ken S K 5 New signing. Thought to play better closer to LOS.
25 Watkins, Pat S K R Had great TC. Possibly stll the answer at FS.
37 Elam, Abram S ? R Showed promise. I wouldn't lose any sleep if he left.
34 Parrish, Tony S G 9 As good s gone.
41 Newman, Terence CB K 4 As close as we have to a shut-down corner.
42 Henry, Anthony CB K 6 Decent CB.
26 Glenn, Aaron CB K 13 Grey haired' CB. Solid 3rd CB. How much left in the tank? This year?
35 Reeves, Jacques CB ? 3 3 years of mediocrity.
33 Jones, Nathan CB ? 3 Time to perform.
36 Butler, Quincy CB ? R Nothing to cement his contract.

Special Teams
1 McBriar, Mat P K 3 Pro Bowler.
7 Gramatica, Martin K K 7 Hamburglar' was a welcome relief when watching FGAs!
91 Ladouceur, L.P. LS K 2 No real mistakes.

35 Keepers
5 Developmental
11 Maybes
3 Gones

From this, obviously there are 40 spots taken. That leaves 13 potentially available. 2 spots available for FAs before the draft. [Assuming 53 man roster, this list taken yesterday from DC.com].

Draftwise: I see:
FS major need
DT major need for back-up/rotation
OL backup roles
WR for future
FB no viable FB on roster IMO, but none highly rated in draft either
CB depth / future replacement for AG

The crucial word is 'steady'!!! I would consider 2 impact players at the primary need positions a success.

7 out of 10 hits doesn't seem to be what we are desperate for.

A little long without too much depth, but any thoughts guys?

Hoyte has been the best FB weve had since Johnston. His blocking was superb for a guy that hadnt played the position since high school. I really look forward to his play next season with an offseason to hone his skills.

i also dont agree with your hamlin interpretation. hes a true free safety and always has been despite what ESPN babbles on about.

A couple of interesting conditions!

Fair comments.

I thought Hoyte blocked well early in the season when first converted, but he didn't appear to be a threat in the passing game. We haven't seen much of him due to the injury, but I did list him as someone I would like to see develop. If there was a 'Moose' out there, I'd take him.....etc

Interestingly, he is listed on DC.com as an LB!

I'm sick of one dimensional blocking FB's...if that's all we want, we should just line up another OG in the backfield.

The offense needs a FB who is quick and can run the draws and screens and provide a threat.

I'd be happy to settle for a FB with less blocking ability and more of a threat with his hands on the ball....those type FB's open things up for the offense more.

Time marches on, but I'm talking about guys like Walt Garrison, Robert Newhouse, Tim Newcomb, and Ron Springs.

Those guys were adequate, but never great, blockers...however, they ran the ball well and caught it out of the backfield, and their added threat actually made it easier for them to block for the TB because defenders had to come to them and respect their threat.

I want a true FB, even if he's not the best blocker in the league.

Jason Snelling might be a Day 2 option. Has ties to John Garrett.

I think if FB is going to have a bigger role then getting a true FB is important.

Great job!

My brain says we need most DT major need for back-up/rotation

However, my heart want Teddy Ginn Jr. to fly with the ball and creat some excitement and mismatch problems.

Why do you still view free safety as a major need?

Hamlin was pretty efficient at the spot for Seattle. Watkins was at least improved during his second stint as a starter. I mean, if a sick talent dropped at FS in the draft, I wouldn't be averse to it - but this is the first time in a LONG time we've actually legitimately addressed the FS position. I don't see it as a major need anymore.

Thanks SP..

Systematic conditioning, I suppose! Have said and heard it for 2 or 3 years, perhaps I've programmed myself not to believe until I see him successfully in our colours.

There is still enough conjecture out there regarding his attitude and ability since re-hab that will leave me feeling less than 100%.

To be fair, he has been a decent starter.
