Tips from T.O., the Godfather
With the young receivers struggling in the first two preseason games, Terrell Owens stood in front of a position meeting on Monday and volunteered his tutorial services.
It's just part of his role as the elder statesman of the receiver corps.
"I don't think I made that transition just yet," Owens said. "But I did hear that Danny (Amendola) called me the God Father of the group. I don't know how to take that."
"I told those guys if you guys need any info and if you want to talk to me I am always available," Owens continued. "In their eyes I might be a superstar or I might be too good. I am always available. I have always been like that. If they have any questions they can ask me or (Patrick) Crayton. We want to help them on the football field."
Owens became the God Father of the group when Terry Glenn was released. However, its not a new role for him, considering he took Sam Hurd under his wings three years ago.
Owens said the difference now is that his crop of young receivers is a little more shy.
"These guys are a little more reserved," Owens said. "Coming from college it takes some guys a little longer to make transition and some times being in the locker room with guys they have seen on TV in high school and college is a little over whelming."
Owens said he decided to step up after watching repeated mistakes on film, making him wonder if the guys were hesitant to ask for help.
"I think there were simple mistakes that were being made in the course of the game that could have been eliminated in practice," Owens said. "So it doesn't bode well for them when they are putting themselves on film making mistakes. It puts them in a bad position."

Great practice Wade says
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips called today's workout (the first back at Valley Ranch) the best practice he's seen of the year so far. That's because the Cowboys are back in their regular routine at home and put in some of the stuff they will use against the Houston Texans Friday night.
Here are some of today's notables....
* Nice one-handed leaping catch by WR Danny Amendola (left) along the sidelines, probably out of bounds but impressive nonetheless.
* Play of the day: Safety Patrick Watkins made a leaping interception over receiver Mark Bradford in team drills. Watkins had two interceptions in preseason overturned by penalties.
* Limping around: LB Anthony Spencer is still bothered by a swollen knee. He will be re-examined on Wednesday.
* Nice hands: TE Rodney Hannah is likely headed for the practice squad again but he is making an impression. He had a nice game against Denver and showed soft hands with two nice catches in practice on Tuesday. Patrick Watkins says Hannah is the toughest guy on the team to cover.
* Felix Jones and Isaiah Stanback handled first-unit kick returns.
* Cowboys safety Roy Williams did not participate during team drills because of knee tendonitis.
* Spin move: In 1-on-1 drills LT Flozell Adams handled star OLB DeMarcus Ware most of the time in Oxnard. Not at Valley Ranch Tuesday. Ware's speed rush off the edge included a spin move to the inside to get to the QB.
* Jay Ratliff was working some at DE. Expect to see that this season along with Tank Johnson at NT.
* WR Todd Lowber had a long pass from Richard Bartel go through his hands with tight coverage from rookie Mike Jenkins at the goal line.
* DE Marcus Spears manhandled guard James Marten in 1-on-1 drills and G Joe Berger held his own holding back NT Tank Johnson, who can be a handful in these battles.
