Cowboys and Big 12 make case for Final Four in Arlington

The new Cowboys stadium in Arlington will be home to a Super Bowl, an NBA All-Star Game and the Cotton Bowl Classic.
The [FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Dallas [/FONT][/FONT][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Cowboys[/FONT][/FONT] and the Big 12 Conference made its case to the NCAA today to bring the Final Four to Arlington.
The new Cowboys stadium, scheduled to open in 2009, is hoping to host the collegiate basketball tournament and is one of 10 cities bidding for the opportunity. A group of local officials including representatives from the Cowboys and the Big 12 presented the North Texas bid at a meeting in Indianapolis on Wednesday morning.
Members of the NCAA men's basketball committee visited Arlington and the Cowboys stadium on Oct. 1. The committee memebers toured the stadium and met with Arlington mayor Robert Cluck, Fort Worth mayor Mike Moncrief and Dallas mayor Tom Leppert.
"We tried to give them a taste of what the event would be like here in North Texas," said Dallas Cowboys spokesman Brett Daniels last week, adding that he did not know when the NCAA would make a decision.
“We were pleased with the presentation and the reaction of the committee seemed genuinely positive,” said Tim Allen, senior associate commissioner of the Big 12 Conference. “We will all have an anxious few days as the NCAA makes a final review of the bid materials and analyses our proposals. All in all I think we made a strong case for the NCAA to bring the men’s Final Four to North Texas.”
The NCAA is expected to announce site selections for both men's and women's Final Four tournaments for 2012 to 2016 sometime in the next week. Dallas is also bidding for the women's Final Four to be hosted at the [FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]American[/FONT][/FONT][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif] Airlines[/FONT][/FONT] Center.
North Texas is competing with St. Louis, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, [FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]San [/FONT][/FONT][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Antonio[/FONT][/FONT], Houston, Phoenix, Atlanta, [FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]New [/FONT][/FONT][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif][FONT=arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Orleans[/FONT][/FONT]
and Detroit for the chance to host the men's tournament.
