FYI: Dal-Detroit game is on NFL Network

I find it hard to believe that when blitzing they are supposed to make contact with the O LINE and not the QB. Fact was that our ILBs were LOUSY at blitzing. It did not matter what was tried, they stank at it.

Up through the Saints game we had a top 10 D. So why would anyone have tried anything before then?

Once again, that's not my point.

Using the Cowboys' performance against the Lions, certain people have argued that employing more aggressive tactics will be unsuccessful. This is a fallacious argument, however, because the Detroit game represented a complete rethinking of the Cowboys' defense philosophy: They went from a 3-4 defense that was pure 2-gap, read and react, and cover 2 to a 4-3 defense that relied more heavily on line stunts, blitzing, and man coverage.

These kinds of changes represent a defensive overhaul and simply cannot be implemented in the span of a week. Otherwise, training camps, minicamps, OTAs, and preseason games are largely unnecessary.

Totally get your point and it would make me feel better if it weren't the Lions that we lost to at home with the Division Title still a possibility. A team that, with a loss, might have ended up with the number one pick in the NFL draft. Their offense was in the bottom third of the league and gave up the second most sacks in the league. They were improved and always played hard, but that was a game that a playoff contending team should have won.

I can't wait for 2007 to kick off so that I can erase that whole last month of the season.

the eagles had won the division title earlier that day. We were cemented as the the wildcard.

Can't they replay the Indy game? I enjoyed that one.

They replayed it...and the 2nd Giants game.

But every other game they've replayed has been the ones we DON'T want to watch.

No they didn't.

We lost, thus guaranteeing the Eagles the division title. Hence, why they rested their starters.

Ahh, my mistake.

But we still couldn't have won the division title. Because we spilt with the Eagles, the division record would have been the tie breaker, and we would have been 3-3, while the eagles would hae been 4-2. Thus, they clinched the title already

Actually, Dallas and Philly both went into that last Sunday with a 9-6 record. Dallas went into the game knowing that they could still take the Division if they had won and Philly had lost the late game.

Phily wasn't gonna lose to ATL, that was a given

That's exactly what most people thought about a Dallas team with every reason to win against a Detroit team that was in position for a possible #1 pick in the Draft. Didn't work out that way, though.

Not at the time that Dallas lost, which meant that they still had a possible Division title to play for.

Newman stunk it up pretty good that day (pass interference that negated a touchdown, muffed punt, got burned by Mike Williams for a score), so it is questionable if it would have mattered. Probably the worst game he has played as a Pro.

That wasn't pass interference, it was 'hitting a defenseless receiver'... and it was complete horseshat. He muffed a punt, but he also returned one for a TD. The last time anyone did that was 2001.. But uh, yeah... terrible game for Newman

Nevermind, Newman did get burned on the TD to Williams, my bad.

Detroit was able to exploit our secondary.

They must have done their homework.

BTW, Aaron Glenn gave up two 1st Half TD's to Roy Williams.

Makes you wonder why he was even trying to cover him....
